Hogwarts, Scotland Highlands, 1978
January 29nd, magically warmThe next day I was in the Great Hall early morning, having a big breakfast.
"Hey, you took my maple syrup!" I swatted at James' hand.
He gawked at me, "You literally took it all!"
"Well, eat something else." I shrugged and he battled a smile.
Leaning over the table, he kissed my forehead and I looked up in surprise, "I missed you, Lena."
I pursed my lips and smiled back, "I missed you more, Jamsie boy."
He laughed, shaking his head. It is then I realise, "YOU TOOK MY SYRUP!"
"Aren't I smooth?" He winked and I groaned.
"Cheeky bastard."
"Oh, hey, have you guys heard?" Mary dropped into the seat beside Peter's, a seat down from James'. "Dumbledore's calling a meeting with us seventh years in groups."
"In groups?" James asked, "It can't be about our profession aspirations then,"
"It's not," Mary said, dropping nearly all the cereals in her milk. "O'Flaherty from sixth year, Hufflepuff claimed Professor Pomona Sprout took Amos Diggory, Meghan Abbott, Jason Corner, Finch Fletchley, Renee Malone and Wanda Hopkins from seventh year in Dumbledore's office and locked the door from outside, allowing no one to enter!"
"The entire group?" I frown, "Did they do something detention worthy?"
"Are you kidding me?" Dorcas piped in, apparently having been eavesdropping on the conversation. "Amos might've, or Abbott, even Fletchley has a chance of doing something. But dear Hopkins, Malone and Corner? Absolutely not, those are sweethearts."
Marlene agreed, "I heard Pandora from Ravenclaw along with Xenophilius Lovegood, Damocles Belby, Terressa Boot and Ali Reedham were taken together, too."
I contemplated the situation while taking a big bite of my delicious pancakes and waffles. There was only Alice, Marlene, Dorcas, Mary and me from our house in the Great Hall, of course excluding James and Peter.
It was considerably late and the breakfast would end in around fifteen minutes. Remus was always the earliest to arrive.
Something like worry emerged in my stomach and the previous butterflies who were now dragons stomped on it until it dissipated.
As if on cue, Ella and Lily entered together. The latter looked more annoyed than anything and it made me feel selfishly glad.
When Lily spotted me, she abandoned Ella at once, all but running towards me. I laughed as she pulled me into a tight hug, sniffling when I patted her back.
"Awe, you couldn't have missed me that much, right?"
"You have no idea!" Lily huffed, taking a seat next to me instead of James. She shot James a sheepish look and he smiled knowingly. "But the grief is mostly due to Marlene being an awful company and talking about nothing but the pumpkin pie they are now serving in Three Broomsticks, free if you buy three butterbeers."
