Hogwarts, Scotland Highlands, 1978
January 24th, snowing

We get back to Hogwarts and it's better than how I've been feeling lately.

The train journey was filled with laughter. Marlene had bought nearly the entire trolley and had packed it all in her trunk for the rest of the year until our next Hogsmeade trip.

Dorcas had slept the entire way and Lily had gushed on and on about how she kissed James after she'd found him decorating the menu in a colour-coded pattern.

"Oh, El! He did it so beautifully, just like I like it. I don't know what got into me but I knew I couldn't hide from it anymore. I wanted him to be my new year's kiss." she'd said, a permanent red on her cheeks.

"There are some new rules as Mr Filch has informed me —" Dumbledore went on and on, despite knowing no one was listening.

"I can't believe we're going to give our N.E.W.T.S. this year and then we'll be graduated!" Lily sighed. "I'm so stressed."

"You'll top," James rubbed her back. "I'll help you,"

"Potter — James," She fought off a smile, "You helping me would only make it worse."

"What, I'm head boy, am I not?"

"Miraculously, yes." She made a funny face.

While the two bickered, I turned to Remus. "How'd your break go?"

"Awful," He frowned. "I had a really bad moon without the marauders there."

"I'm so sorry," I tell him genuinely. "Do you want me to check your scars later?"

He looked over and smiled, "That would be great, thank you, Elena."

I smiled back as he kissed me before pouring pumpkin juice into his goblet. Despite it, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was different.

It didn't feel like it did before. I didn't get butterflies.

Letting it go, I tuned into the conversation Alice and Dorcas were having near me while Ella talked to Sirius.

What I also couldn't shake was the pit in my stomach when I saw Ella with him. Letting it also go, I cut into my chicken and with a sudden lonely feeling, dropped my fork. I didn't feel like eating anymore.

"Uh, guys?" They all looked up as I stood. "I think I'm gonna go to bed early."

"You alright?" Lily asked.

"Yeah," I smile at her. "Just tired."

She smiled back and went back to eating. I bit my inner cheeks and got out from the marauder's area, walking speedily towards the Great Hall doors.

Filch glared at me as I passed him but said nothing and let me go. Walking up the stairs to the Gryffindor common room, I made haste to reach my dorm but a voice behind me stopped me in my tracks.
