➖ Afreen➖
ABUJA, NIGERIA
What would you have done, if you were in Afreen's shoe? Suffering from loss of memory, unorganised and boring life, a forced friend, it's not a forced friend per say, but she is not really into it or is she?
She's dreading all of them, and it seems she has no way out of it?!
It's been exactly a month since Tariq asked her to be his girlfriend. Like girlfriend for goodness sake, that couldn't be possible at all. She could'nt even wrap her head around the confession and she didn't bother hiding her displeasure and unacceptance about the idea of him liking her and dating her, So she rejected him. She knows that would hurt a lot from what she has seen from her friends past relationships, especially Aisha.
But then she can't deceive herself, break the promise she had made to herself, just because of a guy that claims he loves her. Love. That emotion makes her feel nauseous.
She knows many a times, her friends, family anyone she could think of. Have given her advice, pep talks, infact let me rephrase it 'relationship advice' like find love, give a man the chance to complete your deen, you can't continue being single and lonely, can I hook you up with my friend and so on. Not to forget the conversation she had with one of her sister, month back about the same topic. Infact it has always been the same, till God knows when.
But then one thing she isn't happy about is the fact that when she masks up the courage to move on, its like a remote is used to control her, she literally goes back to square one, that courage walks away, in style!
One thing she is shocked about is the fact that her parent are not talking to her about all this marriage talk. Like Afreen you're too old to be living in your parent house, it's high time you get married, I want to hook you up with my friends son. All those type of talk. But one thing she knows is that eventually, a time will come when they will talk about it, infact she had seen the sign since the day Tariq and his parent visited. But who knows?
The day he had proposed to her, it felt like a dèja vu. It felt oddly familiar, but was that even possible. She knew it has happened before once upon a time. But this particular one, looked and felt fresh. Like a recent memory?
She felt a pain struck the middle of her head and she immediately winced. Remembering what the doctor told her, she palmed her face and wiped the bid of sweat that had started forming on her head. She leaned her back against the headboard, then closed her eyes, trying to welcome the darkness that will come with peace, maybe.
The way she closed her eyes, she was waiting for sleep to take her away, but it seemed impossible, many thought kept coming to her head, both the meaningful and meaningless. All. She brought her knees up to her chest, pressing her knees real hard. She shuddered in pain as her ankle made a crack sound. She winced in pain, grabbing the leg in the process.
