Chapter 37

This has been the most exhausting day of my life and I haven't even moved from my desk. I'm so busy, it's almost been impossible for me to spend time with Scarlett these past few weeks. In fact, I have not been able to help her put the things in her apartment into boxes.

Speaking of Scarlett...

*Phone Call*

"Hello, amore" I said letting out a sigh.

"Babe, you sound tired" She said softly.

"I am, honey" I said looking at my computer screen "Did something happen?"

"I just wanted to invite you to dinner for the last time at my apartment" She said softly "And I just need to talk to you"

"What do you want to talk about?" I asked worried.

"It's better to talk about it in person, honey" She replied nervously.

Shit.

"But did something happen?" I asked again.

"Babe, I'll see you tonight" She said so I wouldn't continue with the questions.

"Okay" I said sighing "I love you"

"I love you too, Alex" She said before ending the call.

*End Phone Call*

"Shit, shit, shit" I said after hanging up the phone "Have I done something?"

I hate it when people don't tell me what they want to talk about. My mind invents all the possible scenarios that the conversation could be about.

After the conversation with Scarlett, it was impossible for me to concentrate on my work, so I decided to leave early.

When I got to Scarlett's apartment, I stood outside her door for a long time, as my nerves kept me from thinking straight.

After a while, I rang the bell and the door opened seconds later.

"Why didn't you use your key?" Scarlett asked confused.

"Hmm I don't know" I answered softly.

Scarlett ushered me in and there wasn't even a kiss or a hug.

"Fuck, this is going very bad" I thought in my head.

We walked to the kitchen where Rose was sitting on a stool. I looked around and noticed how well decorated everything was, but that didn't make my nerves go away.

"ALEX!" The little girl shouted excitedly making me look at her immediately.

"Hey, nugget" I said hugging her and leaving a kiss on her head.

"Do you like my t-shirt?" She asked excited.

I looked at her t-shirt and noticed that it said 'Promoted to big sis'.

"It's very pretty" I said, still nervous since I could feel Scarlett's gaze fixed on me.

"Sit down, dinner is ready" Scar said softly.

During dinner the only one who spoke was Rose, as she told us about her day at school and how she has been learning songs on her guitar.

There were times when I would block and in my head I just thought what Scarlett wants to talk to me about.

"Baby?" I heard Scarlett ask snapping me out of my trance.

"I'm sorry, what did you say?" I asked embarrassed.
