Chapter 23

Later that night

I woke up to Y/n still sleeping on the couch next to me, the house quiet and the baby still sleeping, the sky was dark now.

"Babe, come on, let's make something quick to eat for the kids and go back to bed" I said as I lightly shook her awake.

She got up and went upstairs with Gunnar as I went to the kitchen and pulled out a pizza from the freezer.

"Pizza? Yumm" Maddie said as she walked over, rubbing her eyes.

I put it in the oven and picked her up, propping her on my hip.

"I miss Gypsy" she said as she laid her head on my chest.

"I know baby but I'm gonna bring her home tomorrow... okay?" I said and she nodded.

"She's gonna be okay isn't she daddy?" She asked.

"Yeah babygirl, she'll be okay. Like I said, she's a bit sick so the doggy doctor wanted to make sure she was okay and that its okay for her to come home tomorrow" I said.

"Okay" she said and did a wiggle which let me know that she wanted down.

Ryker grabbed my leg and I picked him up, replacing the spot where Maddie was just before.

"Hey buddy" I said and kissed his temple.

"Finny is sad" he said. Ryker has called Finn, Finny for a while as a nickname.

"I know bud, he just misses his sissy" I said. "Are you gonna give her all the cuddles in the world to make her feel better in the morning?" I asked him and he nodded.

"That's my boy" I said with a smile.

I continued holding him, walking to the backdoor and swaying back and forth.

"Brother" he said and I turned around to see Y/n holding Gunnar.

"Hi" she said and walked next to me. I kissed her forehead and Gunnar's as well.

"Hi" I responded and smiled once again.

"How about you go give Finny some cuddles to make him feel better" I suggested to Ryker and his face lit up.

I let him down and he ran, disappearing into the rest of the house.

"They really miss her, they're worried" I said and Y/n as I rested my arm around her shoulder.

"Yeah. I just hope it doesn't happen again" she said and I nodded.

"Poor Mads was balling her eyes out earlier. I felt so bad because I couldn't calm her down, Ryker did" she said.

"Hey, at least her little brother is there when she needs comfort" I said back.

"I'm glad they have each other, just not glad that it happened on the circumstances" Y/n told me and I nodded, remembering that Ryker came into the world when Y/n went away.

"Well, he's a good kid and maybe having babies that are 14 months apart isn't so bad after all" I laughed.

The oven dinged and I walked over, pulling out the pizza.

"Ry! Maddie!" I called out and they came running.

I cut the pizza and put a slice on 4 different plates, taking Ryker and Maddie theirs.

Y/n grabbed hers as I got mine and we sat down. She fixed herself to where Gunnar could eat while she did.

"Did you feed me like that?" Maddie asked and Y/n nodded, "what about me?" Ryker asked and I laughed.
