Chapter 73

After my doctor told me about my resting time, he asked questions.

"So I know you were in a car wreck... how exactly did your shoulder end up like this?" He asked.

"I was in the back feeding my son and I saw the truck and alerted my boyfriend but it was too late. So I hurled myself over his carseat and my shoulder was lodged between the door and his car seat" I said.

"So you took the hit for your son, how old is he?" He asked.

"5 months" I said.

"You don't look like you've ever had a child" he said.

"My boyfriends ex is his birth mom, she passed a few months ago so my boyfriend and I split custody of him" I said.

"Your 17..." he trailed off.

"With the approval from the court and state of Missouri, I have partial custody of that baby" I said and looked him dead in the eye.

"Sorry, didn't mean to overstep. Uhm, I'll leave you two alone now" he said and got up.

"That was freakish" Ryker said and I nodded, looking at him.

"So what about you guys? Just a few knacks?" I asked.

"Yeah, just this little thing. Duke is okay, he was just cut from the window busting and Luxe was okay, no trauma at all" he said.

"Thank god you all are okay" I sighed in relief.

"Do you need anything?" He asked.

"Food would be really good" I said.

"Ill get you a sandwich, no tomato or turkey, I know" he said, holding a finger up.

I smiled and grabbed my phone once he left the room.

I decided to call dad to let him know I was awake and okay.

"Madison, your awake thank God" he answered.

"Yeah, we're gonna be just fine. They had to replace my scapula and cement my shoulder blade together" I told him.

"I'm so sorry this happened Mads" he said.

I could tell he felt bad.

"It's alright. In a few months, I'll be in physical therapy and I'll be good as new" I said, smiling to myself.

"Yes it's your sister on the phone, you can come talk to her" I heard dad say from that end of the line.

"Maddie?" Gunnar's voice echoed through the phone.

"Hey little brother" I said.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

"A bit of pain but my nurse is bring me some pain meds so I should be okay. Ryker is getting me food right now, I haven't eaten since this morning" I said.

"Maddie!" I heard Stella exclaim.

"Stella Blu, hey sis" I said back.

I heard my nurse knock and come in.

"Just a sec Gunnar, I'm getting my medicine" I told him.

"Family?" She asked.

"Yeah, calling to check in" I smiled.

She hooked the IV up to the needle in my hand and started the bag drip.

"It's a low dose so it shouldn't make you sleepy but it will help with your pain. Let me know if you need anything" she smiled before walking out.

"She seems sweet, are you getting treated well up there?" Dad asked.

I guess Gunnar had handed the phone back.
