Colby's POV

It's around 2PM and Duke was able to be released a few hours ago.

We are all sitting in the living room as we have company.

"Okay look, we can't just let you guys adopt him" a cop said to me.

"And why not? He's living here, he has neither parent or any other family here. We clearly have a good family and house that he's welcomed to" I argued.

"If they can't take me in and adopt me then I'm not going anywhere. I'm 17, I can do life on my own" Duke said.

"You have to be 18 to legally be able to live on your own" the cop said.

"Then let us adopt him for the time being" Y/n said.

"Ma'am, he has to be in foster care for time being" he said.

"Boom, were fostering him, there ya go" I said.

"Come on officer, your supposed to do your job and help me get a loving family and home until I'm 18, this is my family" Duke pleaded.

"Mr. Brock, can we have a word outside for a moment?" The cop asked.

"Gladly" I scoffed.

He and I walked outside and I shut the door behind me.

"Look, I'm only trying to help this kid. And your family seems like a good one that id be willing to let him go to, but I can't" he said.

"And why is that?" I asked.

"The system wants these kids to be fostered before adoption. I can try and get you guys in touch with the system for fostering but I can't promise that they will do so" he explained to me.

I stared at him and grabbed his shoulder, pulling him closer.

"Listen here. Your gonna go in my home and your gonna tell your police friends and whoever the hell that case worker is and your gonna tell them that we're adopting Duke Orsino. Then, your gonna clear it with the system and get me my paperwork. If I find out you didn't do it or you told anyone, then I'm gonna stalk you and kill you" I whispered.

He looked genuinely scared but didn't say anything.

"Are we clear?" I asked.

"Yes we're clear mr. Brock. Im going to get your papers and I'll be back tomorrow" he said.

"Sounds good" I smiled and let him go.

We walked back in the house and I smiled.

"Your staying!" I exclaimed.

The kids jumped up and down and the cop smiled at me nervously.

I nodded and they left.

Later that night

"So how did you get him to say yes?" Y/n asked as she got in bed.

"I have my ways" I smirked.

"Cole" she said and I dropped the smirk.

"You promised you were done with the threats when we decided to move here" she said.

"Look, it's Duke honey" I said and walked to her side of the bed.

"I wasn't gonna let him go to some place god knows where" I told her.

"I can't promise that it won't happen again but I can promise that when and if it does, it'll be for a good cause" I said.
