Duke's POV

Maddie is drained. Hell, our whole family is. First Y/n and now Ellie? How did this all happen so fast?

Ryker nor Maddie have been to school the last two days and I didn't either.

But it's a new day, and im going.

"I want you to tell my friends, tell anybody. I don't want them to worry that bad" Maddie said as I got dressed.

"They should be worrying, you haven't gotten out of bed the last 2 days except to go to the bathroom" I said.

"Look. I love you, so much. And I wished that none of this happened but you can't just sleep all day. I get staying home but be productive at least" I said.

"I just don't feel like it, im weak" she said.

"Okay, it's okay. Call me if you need anything and I will come home okay? Be safe, I love you. And I hope that you'll play in the game tomorrow but if not, I understand" I said and kissed her forehead.

I grabbed my keys and went out to my truck.

Maddie nor Ryker hasn't contacted anyone to let them know the situation. Mr. Mikey is the only person who knows besides Mr. Parker.

I even asked him to keep it a secret until Maddie was ready to tell people.

I would also be telling people that were leaving Kansas. Which ruins my chance of getting into Adelphi but it didn't matter to me anymore, this family mattered.

The whole way to school, I was silent. I didn't play any music or anything.

When I arrived, I saw Eliza walking to my truck.

"I know it's early. I just want to know that she's okay" she said.

"Not really. But I'll explain everything when you guys are in the choir room later" I said and she nodded.

I went through all of my classes before stepping into my science room.

"Mrs. Shannon" I said.

She came over to me and we stepped outside the room.

"I'm gonna have to miss this block. I need to visit the Glee club to talk to them" I said.

"Duke, you did this the other day" she said in a low tone.

"I know and I'm sorry I haven't been here the last couple days. But I had a family emergency and I really need to speak to the glee club. I'll be in there tomorrow for sure" I told her.

"Go on, Orsino" she said.

"Thank you" I said before running off.

When I walked in, Blake was singing and I went and sat down on the piano.

I wasn't sure of the song she was singing but she clearly had been already halfway through when I cane in because she finished shortly after.

"That was great Blake" Mr. Mikey congratulated.

"Duke... what are you in here for?" He asked.

"I actually came to update you all on Maddie's situation" I said.

"Oh. Well in that case, the floor is yours" he said and went to sit down in an empty seat.

"For those of you who didn't know, Maddie's mom passed away 6 days ago and we found out on the day, 3 days ago that her little sister passed as well. Maddie's parents adopted me last year as a result of my accident with my dad. So Mrs. Brock was very much like a mother to me as well. The family is doing the best they can but Maddie is the worst right now. She hasn't gotten out of bed since Monday night and she's sleeping all throughout the day" I explained.
