Duke's POV

I was in pain. My chest hurts and my whole body feels weak.
It's hard to breathe. Bearable but difficult.
The breathing tube in my nose made me feel weird. The bandages wrapped around my body were uncomfortable... and itchy.
I just want to go home to Maddie and lay down. I want to sleep.
But this breathing tube isn't allowing that.
I looked over and stiffly grabbed the tv remote, turning the tv on.
I didn't even feel like finding a channel, I just needed to be occupied.
Laying there, I got bored so I just shut my eyes.
The door opening, my eyes landed on Maddie.
"Duke" she said and ran over.
"Careful" I whispered and she hugged me.
"Oh my god" she sobbed into my neck.
"It's okay, I'm here and I'm good" I said.
Once we pulled away, I looked at Ryker.
"Thank you" I said.
"But how did you even know to come find me?" I asked.
"I uhm... I saw it" he said.
I thought for a moment and realized Maddie had told me before that she can see past events... like a psychic or something.
"Like Maddie" I said.
"Yeah. She can see the past but I can see present. It's the first vision Ive had since I was like... 10 or 11" he said.
"How does it happen?" I asked.
"No clue. Our mom kinda passed the genes down onto us but we're the only two who experience it... at least I think so" he said.
"Speaking of parents... what's gonna happen to you now? Neither parent available" Maddie asked.
"No idea. I'll be 18 in a year basically" I said.
"They're gonna put you in foster care or something, what if you move away?" Ryker asked.
"I'm not going into foster care. I'm good on my own" I said.
"But your not, which is why we need to ask you some questions about the stabbing" an officer interrupted as he and another guy in a suit walked in.
"You two can come back once we've had our conversation" the cop said to Ryker and Maddie.
"Okay" Maddie said and they walked out.
"Officer, sir" I greeted the two.
"Mr. Orsino" the cop nodded.
"Uh please don't. Just call me Duke" I said.
"Okay Duke. I'm officer Carson with Wichita Police Department. This is Mr. Grant Jackson who is your fathers attorney. We want to ask a few questions regarding the attempted murder by your father" he said.
"Okay" I responded.
"Hit me" I added.
"This is a recording device that will-" Carson started but I cut him off.
"Yes I got that. I had to speak into one when my mother died" I said.
"Oh... sorry for your loss. Uhm, at the occurrence of the stabbing, what led up to it? Or why did it happen?" He asked.
