Chapter 66

I walked up on the stage and the light shone down on me as the music started.

"If I don't say this now, I will surely break. As I'm leaving the one I want to take" I sang.

All three of their jaws dropped and I smiled.

"Forgive the urgency, but hurry up and wait. My heart has started to separate" Alex sang as he walked out from backstage next to me.

Maddie's jaw dropped further and I grabbed Alex's shoulder.

"Oh-ohh-oh, oh-ohh-oh, be my baby. Oh-ohh-oh, oh-ohh-oh. Oh-ohh-oh, oh-ohh-oh, be my baby. I'll look after you" The rest of the group sang as they walked out.

We all lined up on the stage and continued singing together.

Blake stepped up on the next line. "There now, steady love, so few come and don't go. Will you, won't you, be the one I'll always know? When I'm losing my control, the city spends around... you're the only one who knows to slow it down" She sang.

And in the next one, Dave stepped forward.

"If ever there was a doubt, my love, she leans into me. This most assuredly counts, she says most assuredly" He sang.

They all looked at me to take the next line so with a smile, I stepped forward.

"It's always half and never whole. You've begun to feel like home, yeah. But what's mine is yours to leave or take. What's mine is yours to make your own" I sang.

We all finished off the rest of the song and the three in the seats ahead of us clapped and cheered.

They ran on stage and Maddie was crying as she hugged me. "Thank you, thank you so much" She breathed out.

All I could do was sway as we hugged back and forth.

Maddie's POV

For once since mom and Ellie passed away, I was happy.

This entire day has just been so good. Things were starting to feel normal for once. And my tears, they were happy tears, tears of thanks.

These people around me were helping me. Helping my brothers who most of them don't even know.

"I want to thank you guys... for everything. I know we may be moving but you guys have been such good friends in the two days that I've talked to most of you" I said.

"Honestly, my sister has a point. I know that I practically know like... 4 people who just did that but thank you all. It really makes us feel better" Ryker said.

"And Gunnar, although like nobody right here knows you, if y'all don't move... then take that as a message that we will all have your back and look after you next year when you get here" Eliza said to him.

"Thanks" He smiled.

My phone went off and I looked to see it was Dad.

Colby: Hey, just seeing where you four are???

Maddie: Oh sorry, the glee kids and Duke surprised me, Ry and Gunnar with a sympathetic song. Dad, I really don't want to leave these people.

Colby: When do you think you guys will be home? We can talk before I have to get the girls from dance and Hunter from baseball.

Maddie: Give us 10 minutes?

Colby: See you then Maddie bug:)

I turned my phone off and by the look on Duke's face, he had been watching me.
