I turned around and outstretched my arms as she walked in and I gave her a big hug.

"Go see her again, I'm taking her in" I said and we walked back in there.

She went and sat with the kids, hugging and petting her, talking to her.

"I don't like seeing her sick" Ryker said.

"Me neither buddy. I'm gonna go ahead and be real with you two... Gypsy might not come home" I said.

"What? Why?" Maddie asked.

"Because of her being sick, she's in pain and so maybe it's better if she just goes to sleep, then she won't hurt" I said.

"I like that idea, I want her to be at peace" Maddie said.

Y/n and I had zero clue how she knew what that meant but, then again, she knew most things a 5 year old wouldn't understand.

"Bye bye Gypsy, I'll see you later" Ryker said and kissed her snout.

"I love you" Maddie said and hugged her quickly.

The two of them stood up and I watched as Y/n sniffled before kissing Gypsy's face repeatedly.

"I love you, your a good girl Gypsy. Keep that in your heart and mind... your a good dog. I'll see you later baby" she said and stood up.

"Wait, let Gunnar interact" I said and got him from his bassinet.

I sat him on the floor as he put his hands on Gypsy and patted her fur.

"Give her kiss?" I asked and showed him which he copied.

"Okay. I'll call" I said and Y/n picked up Gunnar as I took Gypsy in my arms.

Y/n led the way out and opened the back door of the truck for me as I sat her on the seat before Maddie ran out with a stuffed version of Finn.

"Finny will be with you" Maddie said before going back inside. I put the stuffy under Gypsy's paw and shut the door.

"Like I said, I'll call and let you know" I told Y/n.

I kissed her head before getting in the truck and driving off to the vet clinic.

When I showed up, the vet from last time was talking to a customer when he seen my truck, he excused himself.

I got out as he made way over.

"Colby... what's going on?" He asked.

I opened the truck door and he sighed as he laid eyes on Gypsy.

"Bring her in" he said and I picked her up after putting the stuffy in my back pocket.

We walked in and went to a room in the back where I laid her on the table.

He did a physical examination on her and sighed after putting pressure on her stomach.

"There's nothing left to do... I'm aware" I told him.

"The medication's didn't help?" He asked and I shook my head.

"She continued getting sicker and sicker and finally, she took 10 minutes to come upstairs... over time she wouldn't eat or drink and now her breathing is shallow" I explained.

"I can try to unflip her stomach again but... I don't think it'll help" he said.

I pulled the stuffy from my back pocket and stared down at it.

"My 5 year old told me she wanted Gypsy to be at peace... she walked out with a stuffy of Gypsy's brother from the litter" I said and smiled.

"These dogs grew up with my first son, Gypsy was mine from the time I laid eyes on her and now... I can't stand to see her in pain" I sighed.
