Chapter 68

The next morning
Christmas day

I woke up to Ryker asleep next to me when I remembered how I fell asleep in here last night.

Checking my phone, the time was 7:27AM which means, Duke is probably awake.

4 missed calls from Sadie and 7 texts?

Sadie: Maddie, I lied. Luxe is really Duke's and I knew it the whole time.

Sadie: I even have Duke's name on his birth certificate.

Sadie: Im sorry Maddie, please just answer.

Sadie: Dalton found out and broke up with me.

Sadie: Im about panic, you need to take Luxe for a couple days.

Sadie: Go to my house, the key is under the mat.

Sadie: Don't open the bathroom door, please just take him.

That last message was at 7:14, 13 minutes ago.

I jumped out of the bed and ran downstairs, grabbing my keys.

I got in the car and drove as fast as I could, not caring if I sped.

Once pulling up, I threw the mat and took the key, scrambling to unlock the door.

I ran in and went upstairs to Sadie's room and couldn't get the bathroom door open.

There was blood right under the door.

"Sadie!" I yelled.

I heard the baby crying from across the hall and I ran, picking him up.

I shushed him and called 911.

"911, what's your emergency?" The responder asked.

"My friend, I think she committed suicide" I said frantically.

"What makes you think that?" She asked.

"I can't answer questions right now. The address is 117 North Main Street" I said.

"Cops are on their way. Is there anybody else in the house with you?" She asked.

"Her son, my boyfriends son, it's complicated. Just please, get someone over here" I said and walked back to the bathroom.

"Okay, just stay on the line with me okay? Where is she?" She asked.

"Locked in her bathroom. She sent me a text, she told me not to come in and the house is silent. There's blood under the door" I said.

"Okay, try to stay as calm as you can, cops are 3 minutes out" she said.

I took a couple deep breathes and looked at Luxe who was looking at me.

I heard sirens get closer and closer.

"I think they are here" I said and hung up.

I called dad and he picked up immediately.

"Where are you?" He asked.

"At Sadie's, she texted me and I think she's dead. Luxe is Duke's baby" I said and he went silent.

"Stay where you are, I'm on my way" he said and hung up.

"Ma'am?" A cop called out.

I went downstairs and the cop rushed over to me.

"Where is she?" He asked.

"Upstairs, take a right to the hall, the first room on the right, she's in the bathroom" I said and he nodded.
