Chapter 56

That night

Dad took Gunnar to the hospital for an x-ray while we helped mom cook dinner.

"Oh Duke, honey... you can go relax while we do this" mom said.

"No, it's okay. I can be a help in the kitchen, I'm used to it" he said and I kinda tilted my head at him.

He smiled and I lightly smiled back but he seemed awkward almost.

"I broke my arm!" Gunnar yelled as he and dad came in through the garage door.

"Fractured" dad corrected as he laid the keys down on the counter.

He walked to mom and pecked her lips which caused me to smile.

I want love like they have it one day.

"Right near his wrist, just a tiny fracture that could heal in the next couple weeks" dad said.

"They gave you an arm brace? Cool!" Hunter said, interested.

I laughed and dad smiled.

"You kids wanna go wash up? We will get this done" he said.

"Uh yeah, sure" I said.

I grabbed Duke's hand and started up the stairs since Hunter took the downstairs bathroom.

"What was that all about? Your used to it?" I asked.

"I um- when my mom died, my dad was torn and so I had to cook and everything for him. From then on, food was usually my deal and I was kinda forced into the kitchen" he said.

Of course I knew about his mom's passing almost 3 years ago but he never told me that part.

"Oh..." I trailed off.

"Im sorry" I said and he shook his head.

"Not bothered, just wanted to help" he said.

"Yeah... well on the bright side, mom and dad usually do all of the cooking so don't worry about that here" I said.

"O-okay. Uh do you think I could shower after dinner?" He asked.

"Yeah, you can use my bathroom" I said and he nodded with a smile.

We both washed our hands and made our way downstairs to eat.

"Come make your plate and have a seat" mom said and we both walked over and made our plates before sitting.

"So. I just want to ask what you two are gonna do about the whole situation?" She asked.

I glanced at Duke for a split second and opened my mouth to speak but he beat me to it.

"I'm leaving Sadie. That was a- I mean she cheated on me but because there was an outcome and she lied, im not here for it" he said and we nodded

"I'm gonna break up with Dalton. Yes, we were taking a break but that doesn't mean to go and do all of that and I'm not getting myself drug into that situation. And also, I couldn't stay with the guy who hooked up with my best friends girlfriend" I said.

"Wait... what happened?" Ryker asked, clearly unaware of everything.

"Dalton got Sadie pregnant and she tried to tell Duke that it was his baby but Dalton told me today that it was his. And I believe it" I said.

"Ivy's sister Sadie?" He asked and I nodded.

"Oh so they are all he same way... great" he laughed.

"Yeah so uhm, I think were just gonna distance ourselves from them both" I said and Duke nodded at me.
