Narrator's POV
After the midsummer drama, Camila could enjoy the rest of the summer peacefully, doing her hobbies and helping her mother. When her mother needed extra help, Camila would go to her mother's cafe, where she had a few customers who had a crush on her, but none of them turned out as date yet. Camila also spent time with Normani, along with Lauren and Dinah once a week. They went hiking at South Hill and hanging out, watching a movie at Camila's place afterward. They spent every Saturday at Camila's place but never met her mother. They left before her mother returned from the cafe in the late evening.
To Camila's surprise, Lauren could act decently these past weeks whenever they met. Camila and Lauren would greet each other with a simple Hi!, without a hug for sure, even though it was a bit awkward. They would lock eyes, but Camila would always look away. Lauren, who did not talk much would engage in the group conversation, but they never talked to each other one-on-one. Camila thought Normani had talked to Lauren about being more decent. Lauren was not rude and did not say things that could upset Camila anymore. Her presence did not annoy or make Camila scared these past weeks.
Camila did not have that intense hatred for Lauren anymore, but she still avoided talking to her directly. She welcomed Lauren to hang out with them, but still could not fully welcome her. Camila felt that Lauren gave her a certain feeling but could not put her finger on it. She did not hate Lauren or like Lauren. She did not see Lauren as an enemy, friend, or stranger. She thought talking to someone about this weird feeling might help, but she got no one to talk to. Normani and Lucy were certainly not good choices. Forget about Dinah, who was always on Lauren's side. Dinah always tried to set them up such as: making them do things together, but Camila always knew and avoided it.
Since Camila got no one to discuss it, she kept it to herself. One thing was for sure: Camila did not hate Lauren anymore but still did not want to get close to her even as friends only. She did not think that weird feeling that she had whenever Lauren was around or whenever she crossed her mind was something romantic. She did not think it was love. I was not lustful too even though she admitted that Lauren was sexy and charming. If it was the beginning of love, it must be a mistake done by a drunk cupid. Another possibility was that this might be the feeling that Lauren could easily trigger out of women, including her.
Although Lauren behaved well, Camila still kept her guard up. She still thought Lauren was still up to something. Camila did not realize that ignoring Lauren's presence was not a good thing. Camila could not stay away from Lauren or keep Lauren away by doing this: ignoring her but welcoming her to hang out with them. The more Camila ignored Lauren's presence, the more she let Lauren in unconsciously. Lauren slowly got a spot in Camila's life regardless of the good or bad spot she gained.
Camila did not realize it yet because everything seemed good. There was no drama, and Lauren did not upset her anymore. The only thing that occupied her mind was how to tell Lucy about her new friends. Camila could not keep this from Lucy forever. She did not intend to do so, too. Camila would keep her friendship with Normani whatever Lucy would say about it. She was not sure about Lauren and Dinah. She did not want to think about it until she talked to Lucy. Otherwise, it would make her overthink and stress her out.
.
Lucy came back to town last night, on Thursday evening. She went to Camila's place on Friday morning. Both could not wait to see each other again after being away for more than two months. Lucy's arm had recovered. She drove to Camila's place cheerfully. She could not wait to meet her best friend and talk about their summer holidays.
"Camila!!!" Lucy ran to Camila as she got out of the car. "I missed you!!!"
"Finally, I missed you, too!" Camila and Lucy greeted each other with a bear hug.
