Narator's POV

Lauren was lying on the sofa, looking out of the window to the winter sky right before it went dark. She loved dark cold winters. The colder the winter, the more powerful she felt because she could bear the extreme cold that most werewolves could not. She could handle the summer heat, but she could handle the coldest winter best. She was not feeling right today. She was not sick. She just woke up and felt not in the mood to do anything. She stayed in her study room the whole day. She even had her breakfast and lunch in her study room. It was the only place in Alexa's mansion she could be relaxed and enjoy the most.

Lauren heard the knock, and Alexa walked in followed by two of the staff who brought the dinner in. Alexa was told that Lauren wanted to have dinner in her study room again instead of the dining room. Alexa did not see Lauren the whole day. She had the meals of the day by herself in the dining room without Lauren, even though they lived in the same house, and Lauren was home. Alexa sat on the sofa chair and looked at Lauren, who had sat up waiting for her dinner to be served.

"Are you feeling unwell?" Alexa asked. Her staff told her that Lauren did not leave her study room the whole day. "Do you want to see a doctor?"

"No, I am fine," Lauren said and started her dinner. She was quite sure that Alexa had had her early dinner. She ignored Alexa, but she knew Alexa's schedule and habits.

Lauren quietly started her dinner while Alexa was sitting across her with her phone. She was holding her phone, absentmindedly scrolling, but her eyes were looking at Lauren. She waited for Lauren to finish her dinner before she said what was on her mind. She waited for half an hour for Lauren to finish her dinner. Lauren was taking her time enjoying her dinner. She did not bother to look at Alexa, but she knew Alexa constantly looked at her. She ignored Alexa and looked out of the window to the night sky.

"Are you still curious about Camila?" Alexa asked out of the blue.

Here we go again! Lauren talked to herself. She slowly enjoyed her drink after finishing her dinner. "We don't talk about her."

"Why?" Alexa sipped her wine.

"No point," Lauren said.

"Oh, I just thought you might miss her," Alexa said.

Lauren looked at Alexa with her piercing green eyes. She could sense that Alexa was up to something. "Don't waste your time! I won't change my mind."

"About what?" Alexa's eyebrow raised.

"Whatever is in your mind." Lauren looked away, back to the window.

"Don't you miss her?" Alexa's voice was a bit higher than before.

Lauren did not want to respond. She kept silent and enjoyed her red wine, which she rarely had.

"When?" Alexa asked again, but Lauren did not say anything.

Alexa put her glass of wine on the side table. She looked at Lauren. "I saw it." Alexa stopped. She continued since Lauren did not say anything or look at her. "the mark."

Alexa got Lauren's attention. Lauren averted her eyes to Alexa.

"When did you do that?" Alexa bore her anger. She felt like a fool. She found out Camila was marked by a werewolf. She had no idea that Lauren was the one who marked Camila until recently. She felt stupid that she did not find out more about it when she saw the mark two years ago at their graduation party. Werewolves would only mark their true mate, who belonged to them for real by destiny. Some might mark more than one this day, but not Lauren. She did not even mark Alexa after they got married.
