72. A Reunion Lesson

Bel was right.

She had made it exactly five steps out of the Great Hall, following the Hufflepuff prefect who was directing the first years towards their common room, before someone grabbed her by the arm and dragged her into a nearby empty classroom.

As she turned around, still rather frazzled by the whole 'kidnapping' experience, she laid eyes on a very distressed looking Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.

"What the bloody hell is going on?! Going after a murderer, are you insane?!" Ron started yelling.

Both Hermione and Harry were also yelling over him, creating a very chaotic bunch of words hitting Bel's ears.

"Are you okay? You weren't at the start of the feast ... what was that all about?" Hermione was asking her own questions.

"I can't believe this! You've been around dementors, haven't you. All because of Sirius Black. Why didn't you tell me any of this over summer? I had to find out through a NEWSPAPER!" Harry was yelling.

Bel took in a deep breath as she let herself relax against one of the desks behind her, waiting for the three of them to tire themselves out.

It took about five minutes of continued, overlapping yelling until they finally fell silent.

"All done?" Bel asked.

The three Gryffindors just nodded at her.

"I guess I'll start with you, Ron. I'm not going after a murderer, and I'm not insane. To answer your question, Hermione ... I'm fine. And I wasn't at the start of the feast because I was on duty. Which brings me to you, Harry. I have been around dementors. They're keeping the school guarded, but considering the horrifying experience I've heard you had on the train, you're well aware of how dangerous they can be. They're not used to students, they guard Azkaban. They need keeping in line. Over summer, I was trained to do just that.

"And it is because of Sirius Black. He's coming after you, Harry. And he won't hesitate to harm anyone who stands in his way. Which, in turn, means the entire school needs protecting as well as you. I'm doing exactly the same thing as I did last year and the year before. Helping because I can. But I didn't tell you over summer because I was given orders from the Ministry and Dumbledore to keep my mouth shut. They didn't want to panic you. Besides, they knew you would find out the second you arrived back in the wizarding world.

"So ... now we're all here, we can talk it all through. But there isn't really more to discuss. I'm only involved so far as keeping the dementors from wandering too close onto the grounds. I'm not going searching for Sirius Black, and neither should any of you. The entire point of this is to keep you all safe. I already feel bad enough that a dementor attacked you three on the train. Which just goes to show why I'm needed. And nothing you three say is going to stop that."

Bel finished her rant before taking a large breath.

It felt amazing finally getting that off her chest.

She knew all her friends would have questions and, unlike the previous two years, she intended to fill them in from the off.

"All done?" Harry asked, just as she had done.

Bel smiled, satisfied, and nodded.

"Well ... I guess that all makes sense", Ron muttered after a brief silence.
