101. Now We Wait

Bel knew the Forbidden Forest very well.

After two years of duties in there with Hagrid, she had a map of it engraved into her mind.

She may be a tad out of practice considering she had taken a whole year away from such duties in replace of dementor watch, but it was like muscle memory.

That proved itself as Bel quickly led Harry and Buckbeak through the forest until they reached a small opening where she decided they could take a breather from all their running.

"Now what?" Harry asked as they came to a stop.

"We save Sirius", Bel replied.

The sky was now very dim, night approaching.

And with it approached the moment they had travelled back for.

"How?" Harry asked.

"No idea", Bel answered honestly.

"Well, we should get to the –"

"Whomping Willow. It's just around that corner. We can leave Buckbeak tied up here. No one will find him", Bel cut him off.

Harry quickly followed her instructions, tying the chain in his hands around the trunk of a nearby tree.

"Stay here, Buckbeak. We'll come back for you soon", Bel whispered to the creature as she slowly approached him.

Buckbeak took a step in her direction and bowed his head first.

Bel stepped even closer, and the girl and creature joined their foreheads together.

A bond.

A show of gratitude from the creature, and a show of thanks from the girl.

Bel then drew back, Buckbeak taking his place lying down on the dirt floor, and her and Harry broke out into a sprint once again.

She, fortunately, had been right.

The Whomping Willow was just around the corner.

The two students stood in a gap between the trees at the edge of the forest, watching from a safe distance as the tree shook and came to a stop.

There was a man approaching, lifting his wand and announcing the same incantation Bel had used to get past the vicious tree.

"Look. It's Lupin", Bel whispered as Harry shuffled to get closer to her.

It was strange to see him now.

Knowing he was her godfather, Bel felt an obligation to run over to him, explaining everything that was about to happen.

To get him to stay away as the moon passed over.

To keep him safe.

But she adhered to her own advice to Harry.

They couldn't be seen, all they had to do was wait.

Another figure approaching the tree after Lupin had disappeared inside it snapped Bel from her thoughts.

"And Snape's coming", she whispered, watching the potions professor repeat the same actions as herself and Lupin, walking quickly into the gap between the roots.

"And now we wait", Harry muttered.

"And now we wait", Bel repeated with a nod.

The two slowly took a seat onto the ground at the edge of the woods, staring out at the Whomping Willow.
