DISCLAIMER

I do not own Harry Potter ... but making Sirius and Remus godfathers of Harry and Bel is probably the best decision I'll make in this entire fic

__________<>__________

The sight in front of Bel was one she knew would revisit her in her nightmares.

Opposite the iced over lake before them stood Harry over the lying body of Sirius Black.

One by one the dementors swooped down to feed on their prey.

It wasn't the cold that made the hairs on Bel's neck stand on end. It was the screams of her best friend.

The way his back arched as his soul left his body in small quantities.

The way he dropped to his knees after being drained of joy.

The way he was so helpless to the attack.

Bel felt the same.

Helpless.

Her Patronus was taking a stubborn hiatus at the current moment.

And that resulted in such guilt.

All her training that year, all the lessons with Dumbledore to perfect her Patronus and build it to the strongest capacity she could possibly conjure, all for nothing.

All to watch as her best friend was slowly killed by the very thing she swore to keep him from.

"Harry ... what do we do?" Bel managed to ask as she glanced over to the boy watching the nightmare unfold.

"Don't worry. My dad and mum will come. They'll conjure their Patronus'."

His voice sounded so certain that Bel briefly forgot that it was an impossibility.

Ghosts weren't going to be the thing to save Harry and Sirius.

And out of the two of them, only Harry could conjure a Patronus right now.

Bel knew she needed to get through to him before it was too late.

The dementors were continuing to fly down over the two across the lake, continuing to push them further and further into darkness and closer to death.

"Any minute now", Harry muttered as he shifted his weight nervously.

"Harry ...", Bel went to start but Harry cut her off.

"Right there", he said, pointing forward to an open patch of land ahead of them. "You'll see."

When his words left his lips, Bel heard another pained scream coming from across the lake.

It was too much.

Bel couldn't take anymore.

"Harry, listen to me. No one's coming."

"Don't worry. They will. They will come."

Another scream came from Sirius this time.

Bel took a step to Harry's side, seeing the desperation in his eyes as he looked over to the traumatising sight.

"You're dying. Both of you. That future you wish for ... It can't happen if you rely on your past to grant it for you. The person who saves you and Sirius ... is you."

Harry didn't even look over at her before he ran forward to the patch of open ground away from the trees he claimed his mother and father would appear on.
