39. Enemies of the Heir ... Beware

Bel was handed her detention notice when she returned to the Hufflepuff common room that afternoon.

She was to polish the ornate candelabras in some of the hallways without the use of magic.

It didn't seem like such a horrible punishment.

Bel was used to doing chores from the lists children would be handed each morning at the orphanages.

Her list used to be noticeably longer than the others. Bel believed it to be a result of two things.

Firstly as a punishment for her 'accidents'.

Secondly, it kept her out of the way of the other children, avoiding any more from occurring.

However, the candelabras for her to polish were ancient, and were rarely cleaned.

Bel spent a good twenty minutes on each one.

She had gotten through about ten, totalling her time in detention to over three hours, when her hands started to really hurt.

She strongly debated using wandless magic at that point, but was worried that somehow someone would find out, only making it carry on for longer.

As she gave her hands a break, she heard a very faint whisper.

Too faint to make out any intelligible words.

But it sounded not too dissimilar to the voice she usually heard in her head from her wand.

Bel was so used to hearing voices that she simply brushed it aside and carried on polishing.

It was getting dark, she had already missed dinner, and Fred and George had arranged an ICCCC meeting that night once they heard she was given detention.

Getting her detention over with as quickly as possible was in her best interest.

She only had 3 more candelabras to go until she would be done.

At her current rate, it would take her over an hour.

Bel let out a sigh and glanced around the hallway, ensuring no one was approaching.

She then walked over to the next candelabra and raised her right hand, simultaneously focusing on the correct cleaning spell and waving it across the ornament.

Immediately, it was perfectly clean.

Bel let herself have this one.

Learning wandless magic was a tiresome, draining, difficult, and frustrating process.

If it can help her out during detention, she had earned it.

And so, she finished cleaning the rest of the candelabras using the Scourgify charm.

In doing so, the cleaning spell also wiped the polish off both her hands, leaving them cleaner than they were before she started.

Bel then set off to her common room to meet up with Ollie and Riley who had promised her they would sneak her something from the kitchens.

However, something she came across stopped her halfway there.

As she rounded a corner, something on the floor caught her attention.
