I do not own Harry Potter ... but I'm shocked no one asked Myrtle where the snake was at in 50 years

Ron was now running faster than both Harry and Bel.
Neither was surprised, of course. His sister was currently trapped in the Chamber of Secrets with a basilisk.
The question of whether she was still alive was going around and around in all three of their heads.
"Lockhart may be useless, but he's going to try and get into the chamber. At least we can tell him what we know!" Harry yelled out as the three burst into the DADA classroom, running up the stone steps to Lockhart's office.
"Professor, we have some information for you", Harry started as they piled through the door.
Around the office was a mixture of open and closed trunks, some with books and clothes hanging out of the sides.
Lockhart slammed the one he was closest to shut, turning to face the three students.
"Are you going somewhere?" Harry asked in a very judgmental tone.
"Uh ... well, yes. Um, urgent call. Unavoidable ... got to go", Lockhart mumbled out as he turned back to his rushed packing.
"What about my sister?" Ron exclaimed in a panic.
"Well ... um ... As to that, most unfortunate. No one regrets more than I", Lockhart replied.
"You're the Defence against the Dark Arts teacher! You can't go now!" Bel scolded.
"Well, I must say, when I took the job, there was nothing in the job description about –", Lockhart started to ramble as he walked around his desk.
Harry and Ron both moved to block his path.
"You're running away? After all that stuff you did in your books?" Harry asked in slight disbelief.
Bel, however, wasn't surprised this was what they discovered Lockhart doing.
If his behaviour in their DADA classes, both regular and advanced, was any indication, this man was as useless as a muggle when it came to magic affairs.
"Books can be misleading", Lockhart argued.
"You wrote them!" Harry yelled.
"My dear boy, do use your common sense! My books wouldn't have sold half as well if people didn't think I'd done all those things!"
"You're a fraud. You've just been taking credit for what other wizards have done", Harry said as the truth finally came out.
Lockhart didn't look guilty or ashamed. If anything he looked angered that someone had finally caught onto his ruse. And that that someone was a twelve-year-old boy.
"Is that what you were going to do with Bel?" Harry then asked.
Lockhart glanced over to the side of the room Bel was currently stood on.
"Take her with you to the chamber, get her to do all the hard work and then take all the credit for yourself", Harry spat.
That was when Lockhart looked slightly guilty.
The act of placing a child in such danger for your own personal gain was enough to make even him feel ashamed of his intentions.
"Is there anything you can do?" Ron asked to break the silence that had ensued.
