Jillian
Since the weather was so nice today Jaiden and I decided to go downtown. She's still in high school so she was probably tired of this place. But it was home and she was familiar with it which made me feel safe. Justin was going to join us once he was done with workouts. It's the weekend so I didn't have to watch over Jai but it also meant it was a little busier than usual in the city.
"I can't believe you're wearing a dress" Jaiden teases as I roll my eyes.
"It's hotter than hell out here I was not wearing pants. And I thought Florida was bad" I scoff.
"Yeah there's a lot of different kind of heats. And no offense but I would take a Georgia heat over a Florida heat any day" she insists.
"I don't blame you there" I shake my head.
We walk for a little while longer before rounding a corner. As soon as we start to head straight again Jaiden stops.
"We should turn around" she whispers. Her eyes as wide as I've seen them.
"Are you okay" I ask worried that she wasn't feeling well or thought she was in danger.
"Justin's ex is over there and if you don't want to feel like ripping out your eyeballs I suggest we leave before she sees me" she explains.
I nod as I let her lead the way. But we don't get two steps away before Jaiden's name is being called.
"Is it too late to run" she whispers.
"It can't be that bad" I insist. I couldn't imagine Justin dating someone his family so deeply disliked. They seemed too close for that.
"Just you wait" she mumbled.
We turn around to face the source of all the commotion and I find a petite girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She had to be no taller than 5"2 and wore short jean shorts and a tank top that left little to the imagination.
The thing that stuck out most was the smile she wore. Not a genuine or a happy one, but one filled with malice and deception. I knew that smile all too well.
"Jaiden! It's so good to see you, I haven't seen you since I got back from college" the girl starts.
"Hey Mary" she mumbles.
"Don't be like that. We were practically sisters for two years" Mary claims.
"Ehhh" Jaiden scoffs. She looked uncomfortable as ever and I just wanted to pick her up and run far away.
"And who is this" Mary questions turning to me. I try my best to act like I can't feel her ill intent but god it was pouring out of her like a waterfall.
"I'm Jillian Hays" I say reaching my hand out. Her fake smile drops as she reaches out to shake my hand.
"You're her huh" she questions.
"Who, exactly" I wonder.
"One of our old friends said he saw Justin was back in town and I thought it was weird he hadn't reached out. Then when I called him he said he had no interest in seeing me. Which is unusual because I was the only serious relationship he has ever had. Then he said he brought a girl home from college and he was going to spend his time wisely and hang out with her.
But you're nothing like I expected" she admits.
"I'm sorry if I let you down" I say.
"Justin just seemed to go for the girls with a little... different" she claims. From the looks of her I could figure out what she meant pretty easily.
