On January 29,2013, Colgate sophomore defenseman Spiro Goulakos was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma due to a routine exam. Spiro has left Colgate University and more specifically, the men's hockey team to receive treatment for this dreadful disease. Goulakos has returned to his hometown of Montreal to receive aggressive chemotherapy and Spiro hoes to evidently make a full recovery in the hopes of returning to the ice at some point in the future. But for now, Spiro will be staying in his native city of Montreal as Colgate men's hockey will have to press on without their sophomore d-man. Our thoughts and prayers are with Spiro and his family as they go through this difficult time.

The Colgate Hockey community put the unity in the word "community" over Spiro Goulakos as they held multiple fundraisers which we'll discuss later. Some of the fundraising proceeds went to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on behalf of our main character. Colgate raised money by auctioning off old jerseys for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which was honestly really wholesome by Coach Vaughan and everyone at Colgate University to do in the mind of a cancer brother of Spiro's. The Colgate hockey community stands with Spiro Goulakos as he looks to destroy cancer!

As you may or may not know, I am also a cancer survivor and as a result, Spiro Goulakos has a special place in my heart because of me going through a similar situation with my leukemia. Spiro was the first player I wanted to write about in this fashion because of a horrifying bond we share in a sense that we both had cancer but thankfully we're both still alive for me to tell this story right here, right now. I praise god for my leukemia because it made me a better person and I firmly believe that I had a similar effect on Spiro. I hope you've been enjoying the story as we discuss Spiro Goulakos and his journey through college hockey and now Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Will Goulakos make a return to the ice in 2012-13? Or, is his season over?
