The emerald falcon soared through the swamp air, a beacon of vibrant green against the murky backdrop. Mia, perched on a moss-covered rock beside Blackie, watched its graceful flight with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion.
"What's that?" she asked, her voice guarded.
Blackie squinted at the approaching falcon, his whiskers twitching. "Looks like a fancy bird. Maybe it got lost following its GPS?"
Mia scoffed. "Lost, right. More likely some kind of ninja spy drone. Trying to track me, see if I'm leading them to the hidden master."
Blackie let out a frustrated meow. "Mia, come on! Don't be so paranoid. Maybe it's just a bird looking for a tasty swamp worm."
But Mia wasn't convinced. The falcon's arrival felt too coincidental, too perfectly timed after Fawkes' visit and her outburst. She narrowed her eyes as the creature swooped lower, circling them cautiously.
Just as Mia was about to unleash a gust of wind to scare it off, the falcon folded its wings and landed gracefully on a nearby branch. An ethereal green light emanated from its body, slowly coalescing into a swirling vortex.
Mia and Blackie exchanged nervous glances. The vortex shimmered, then solidified, revealing a holographic image of the ninja team – Jay, Nya, Kai, Cole, and Master Wu – standing together in the monastery training room.
A lump formed in Mia's throat as she saw their faces, their expressions filled with concern. Jay, his blue eyes welling up, was the first to speak.
"Mia," his voice crackled with emotion, "it's not what you think. We never hated you. We care about you, a lot. We just... we didn't know how to show it sometimes."
Nya stepped forward, her voice firm but gentle. "We messed up, Mia. We focused too much on our own abilities and didn't see your potential. You're an amazing wind user, and we should have been there to support you, to help you grow."
Kai, his usual fiery demeanor replaced by a look of regret, spoke next. "We're a team, Mia. A family. And a family doesn't give up on each other. We may not always say the right things, but we love you. Come back home."
The image flickered and faded, leaving Mia staring at the empty branch. Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring her vision. Blackie, sensing her turmoil, nudged her leg with his head.
"Well," he meowed cautiously, "that was unexpected."
Mia remained silent, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within her. The ninja's message, their regret, their declaration of love – it was a lot to process.
"Fat chance they love me," she finally mumbled, her voice thick with tears. "This is probably some elaborate ninja trick to lure me back."
But her bravado faltered. A tiny spark of hope flickered within her, a flicker she couldn't quite extinguish. Maybe, just maybe, there was a sliver of truth in their words. Maybe they did care.
Blackie hopped onto her shoulder, his tail swishing gently. "Maybe," he conceded. "Or maybe they just really miss someone to make tea for them."
Mia smiled.
" I guess they learned their mistake." Mia said. " Now, let's go to that swamp. Back home."
