" Aww, poor you," Mia said, stroking her brother's head. " Why don't you just tell Kai?"

Jay looked up from the pillow. " And risk getting my tooth out?" He groaned as he clutched his jaw. " Nope. Not gonna happen."

Mia sighed. " I'll go get you some jello."

Mia returned with a small bowl of jello, her expression a mix of concern and determination. She set the bowl down on the bedside table and gently fed Jay a spoonful of the wobbly dessert. Jay winced with each bite, his discomfort evident.

"How's that?" Mia asked, her voice soothing.

"It's okay," Jay replied, though his face contorted in pain. "But this toothache is killing me."

Mia frowned, wiping a bit of jello from Jay's chin. "You've had that toothache for a week now. You need to get it checked out. You can't just keep ignoring it."

Jay sighed, shifting on the bed. "Can I just mash my face into this pillow? It might help."

Mia shook her head firmly. "No, Jay. You can't just avoid it. You can mash your head into the pillow if you need to, but you're still going to eat this jello. And after that, we're going to see Kai. No arguments."

Jay looked at her with a mixture of resignation and relief. "Alright, alright. I'll eat the jello."

Mia smiled softly as she continued to feed him, doing her best to make the process as comfortable as possible. Once Jay had finished the jello, Mia helped him up and guided him toward the door.

"Come on," she said gently. "Let's get you to Kai. He’ll know what to do about that tooth."

Jay reluctantly followed her, his discomfort still evident but softened by Mia’s support. As they walked to the examination room, Jay muttered, "Thanks, Mia. I guess I should have listened to you earlier."

Mia just smiled. "It's okay. We’ll get this sorted out. And remember, I’m always here for you."

Thankfully, Kai wasn't home.

Mia watched as Jay dashed back to his room with a triumphant shout, clearly relieved to have avoided a visit to Kai. She shook her head with a small smile and then went to fetch an ice pack for him.

She entered Jay’s room quietly, finding him lying on his bed with a mix of satisfaction and discomfort. Mia gently placed the ice pack on his jaw, making sure it was positioned comfortably.

"Here you go," she said softly. "This should help with the pain."

Jay took the ice pack and pressed it to his face, letting out a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Mia. This feels much better."

Mia perched on the edge of his bed, her expression a blend of concern and exasperation. "You really should have let me take you to Kai. Ignoring it won't make it go away."

Jay winced as he adjusted the ice pack. "I know, but... I just couldn't deal with the thought of him poking around in my mouth right now."

Mia nodded, understanding his hesitation. "I get it. But you can't keep avoiding it. The pain will just come back if you don't get it looked at."

Jay sighed and looked at her. "Alright, alright. I'll think about it. But for now, this ice pack is a lifesaver."

Mia patted his shoulder reassuringly. "Good. Just remember, I'm here to help. And if the pain gets worse, promise me you'll let Kai take a look, okay?"

Jay nodded, a grateful smile tugging at his lips. "Promise. Thanks, Mia."

Mia smiled back and gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze before heading out to give him some space. She knew that Jay's stubbornness sometimes got in the way of his well-being, but she was always there to make sure he got the care he needed.
