Four-year-old Mia was in the yard, playing with bubbles alongside Jay, when a soft whimper caught their attention.

Mia tilted her head, her eyes wide with curiosity. "What was that?" she asked in her soft voice, glancing up at Jay.

Jay shrugged, equally puzzled. "I don't know."

They both paused, listening intently for the sound again. It wasn't long before they heard it once more, a faint whimper that seemed to be coming from the corner of the yard.

"The bushes!" Mia suddenly exclaimed, pointing to a dense patch of greenery. Without waiting for a response, she tiptoed over to the bush, her tiny hands parting the leaves. Her gasp was immediate. "Hold the phone!"

Jay hurried over, peering over her shoulder. His eyes widened in surprise, and he squealed in delight. "Kittens!" they both exclaimed in unison.

Mia's face lit up with excitement. "Go get the others!" she ordered, pointing towards the house. Jay gave a quick nod, a smile tugging at his lips as he sprinted off to fetch their friends. Within minutes, the rest of the group was gathered around, marveling at the tiny kittens now being fed special cat milk.

Kai stood back, his arms crossed as he observed the scene. "I still don't get it," he said, frowning slightly as the kittens eagerly lapped up their food. "Where did they come from?"

"Beats me," Jay replied, his hand gently stroking the smallest of the kittens, who was struggling to get its share of milk. "But, based on how young they are, they still need their mom. Especially this one." He focused on the runt of the litter, a little black kitten that was barely getting any attention from the others. Mia, ever the gentle soul, smiled and carefully guided the tiny kitten to its own spot at the bowl.

Each kitten was unique—one was brown and white, another was brown and black, and the third was all black. Lloyd leaned in, his brow furrowed. "Where's their mother?" he asked, concern evident in his voice.

Jay shrugged again. "We didn't find her."

"We should get them microchipped when they're old enough and put them up for adoption," Zane suggested, his practical side coming through.

Mia's face fell at the word "adoption." She froze, her voice barely a whisper. "A... adoption?" She looked at the kittens, especially the black one, who was now being bullied by the others, struggling to get enough food. "All of them?"

Jay nodded, sensing her distress. "Yep, all of 'em," he confirmed but quickly added, "But not now. Later."

"Way later?" Mia asked, her eyes pleading.

"No, in about two weeks or so."

Mia's heart sank. She turned to Cole, her voice rising with emotion. "What?! We... we can't just give them away."

Her attention shifted back to the black kitten, now watching as the other two continued to push it aside. "Jay, get my baby another bowl," Mia instructed, lifting the tiny creature into her arms. "He's not getting enough food."

Kai raised an eyebrow. "How do you know it's a 'he' and not a 'she'?" he asked as Jay went to fetch more milk.

Jay chuckled, giving Mia a knowing look. "Because my sister is a cat lover."

Mia nodded proudly, taking the fresh bowl from Jay and setting it down for the little black kitten. "It's true. One day, I plan on getting my own cat!"

Wu chose that moment to stroll through, his hands behind his back as he surveyed the scene. "Well, that is not going to happen while you are under this roof," he declared with authority. "Kittens are too much work."
