Rangong is a very small village with a population of two hundred people. This remote mountain side village is a natural wonder, a picturesque mixture of the vast sea and wild mountains. There are also a number of caves and some ancient temple ruins near the foot of the mountain. A number of abandoned wooden houses are found lined along a small stream flowing beside this village. Most of them are uninhabitable. One of the inhabitable houses is my temporary residence here. It's very secluded. I have no complaints though. It's dilapidated but out of the prying eyes.
It's already been three days since I settled down here. That evening after reaching the village Non directed me towards the village chief house and we parted ways. There is no cellphone reception here so communication with the outside world is a big problem. But I've already arranged everything accordingly so it's not gonna be a problem for me. Non said we will get a signal on the hill top, some clearing up in the mountain, so if I want to call someone I just have to climb up the slope.
I will do that tomorrow. I'll use my old phone to call ma.
The day after tomorrow is Monday. I am eagerly waiting for New.
I already met my team. They are not very efficient group of people. Most of them are too weak to do excessive physical labour and the other members are not very experienced, just like me.
'I came here to meet my in-laws but the chief insisted that I be on this team.' One who introduced himself as an assistant engineer said with a frown. We were discussing how to restart the work while inspecting the road condition.
'Are you not an engineer?'
'I failed my final exam.'
Shit! We are doomed.
'P Tay!' I was immersed in thoughts when someone called my name from afar. I looked ahead and saw Non was waving madly with a huge grin.
'Non! What are you doing here?' I waved back. He came running with hands full of papers.
'Look what I've got!' He almost threw those bundled up papers on my face.
'Hey! Easy!' I caught them on time before they hit my eyes.
'I've heard that you are having trouble with the construction so I brought them. These were the plans and guidance the other chief engineer was using.'
What! Really! Then my problem could be solved! I perked up immediately and after clearing the table in the tent, I laid down the plans.
Jackpot! A huge grin started to spread on my face.
'These are really useful. Where did you get these?'
'I went to meet the village chief to talk about the materials which were dumped in front of the market area. He told me that you guys aren't using them because of some issues so I probed here and there and found out that you are having trouble with the whole situation. So.....I brought these. These were at the chief's house.'
'Then why didn't he give me those earlier!'
'These people are dumb. Forget it, forget it. Use these to restart the work.'
'Thanks buddy. You saved me from losing face.'
'Ah ah! It's nothing.'
I consulted with the assistant engineer and thankfully he got the whole situation under control after just half a day.
'Don't worry chief, The work will start tomorrow. I already talked to everyone.'
This way, with Non's help my team get back on track. Tomorrow New will come and my wait will be over. I've already planned everything. I am not going to show my face unless and until it's completely necessary. And I have to do that secretly so no one can find out that we know each other from before. I came here only to observe his relationship with that family, I don't want to create trouble for him.
