In the opulent halls of the Volturi, Aro made his way restlessly to find Marcus. His crimson eyes burned with an uncharacteristic fury as he contemplated what has conspired. Marcus, his loyal Voltrui, had dared to harm a mortal. Not just any mortal, but one who captured Aro's interest.
Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Aro had always been drawn to the extraordinary. And in Y/N, he had found a mind as sharp as his own, a soul as deep as the abyss. Her mere presence had ignited a spark within him, a longing he had never experienced before.
She was a rare puzzle and he loved rare artifacts.
But Marcus, ever the stoic and unyielding, had seen their connection as a threat to the coven's stability. He seen this situation as a fitting moment to dethrone Aro and take over Volturi for himself. In a fit of misguided protectiveness, he had threatened Y/N and subjected her to pain.
Now, as Aro tracked Marcus to his secluded chamber, the weight of his anger pressed down upon him like a ton of bricks. He had always respected Marcus's wisdom, but this betrayal had shattered their bond. This is not the first time Marcus had betrayed his trust with the ancient laws.
What angered Aro, was not the fact Y/N was scared. Rather, it was the memories Aro remembered from delving into her mind. The pain she was filling now, was the same pain she felt with Viktor, and Volturi was not supposed to be like Viktor's coven. They were supposed to be better. They were not savage animals like the north. They had ancient laws to uphold.
Then, Aro shoved the chamber door open with a loud bang against the stone wall.
"Marcus," Aro hissed, his voice devoid of its usual velvet smoothness. "Explain yourself."
Marcus stood before him; his face impassive as always. "I acted in the best interests of the coven," he replied. "The witch is a danger and there's no problem to a little fun."he continued with a grin.
"A danger?" Aro scoffed. "She poses no threat to us. Your actions were senseless."
Marcus remained silent; his gaze unwavering. "You have overstepped your bounds," Aro continued, his voice rising. "You have forgotten your place in this coven. I am the leader, and you will obey my commands."Marcus's eyes narrowed. "I have always been loyal to you, Aro," he said. "But I will not stand by and watch you make a mistake that could jeopardize the safety of our coven and those surrounding us."
Aro's anger surged. "You dare to question my judgment?" he roared. "Do you think yourself worthy of challenging my authority?"
Marcus said nothing. But in his silence, Aro sensed a flicker of defiance.
"Very well," Aro said, his voice now cold and calculating. "You have made your choice. But take heed to my warning, if you ever lift a finger on Y/N or proclaim a threat in her presence. I will drain your body of any life left within."
"Does this witch really mean this much to you?" Marcus questioned Aro as he poured himself a goblet of blood wine. Aro quirked his head at this comment. Leaving him in silence.
After Marcus took a few swigs of his blood wine. he began to laugh in a low tone. "What is it you find amusing?" Aro spoke with gritted teeth.
"That you will lose your coven, your precious tomes, for merely a witch." Marcus responded with amusement.
"I will assume the drink has taken control of your position; I will see you at tomorrows trial." Aro spoke in anger as he turned and left the chamber swiftly.
Aro was still enraged. But it was pointless to converse with Marcus when he was consuming blood wine. The grave warning Aro gave him should be enough to preoccupy him, Aro thought to himself. But if he did not exchange Y/N soon and retrieve his tomes. He knew Marcus would soon feast on Y/N. If only they knew why her scent was so sweet. he chuckled softly to himself as he strode through the corridors.
Not every vampire was educated to understand witches' blood. because of ignorance, many vampires found themselves dead within seconds of consuming the tainted blood of a witch. Their scent was deliciously sweet, but it was a poison hidden in disguise.
Aro smirked to himself, how he would enjoy the karma of Marcus lifeless on the floor from consuming his prey. This thought compelled the sinister displayed across his crimson eyes.
Aro made it through the entrance to his own chambers. He took a seat at his desk and opened his drawer to pull out a piece of parchment. he dipped his quill and began writing his letter to Viktor. They needed to meet soon to exchange their most precious desires. Especially if Viktor wanted his witches head still attached to her body.
he wanted his tomes, and he had very little time to wait
