In the hushed stillness of dawn, Y/N awoke with a start, her senses alert. The familiar presence of Aro beside her was absent, leaving a chilling void in the bed. A sense of unease crept over her as she noticed the room's icy temperature. The once-crackling fire had dwindled to mere embers, casting an eerie glow upon the stone walls.

Rising cautiously, Y/N slipped out of bed and padded towards the fireplace. As she reached down to stoke the dying flames, a draft blew through the open window, sending a shiver down her spine. The cold seemed to seep into her very bones.

She could this suspicious. Usually Aro kept the fire alive, as he kept her mortality on his mind. But this morning seemed to be different. Something about today did not feel right. Aro was gone. Of course she was used to his disappearance, as he usually had early morning trials with the prisoners in the Volturi dungeons.

However, today was different. Aro did not have trials today. This was supposed to be his day off. He usually had Caius take over trials on these days. She then roamed to Aro's study and noticed the untouched pitcher of blood-tea.

She then turned her gaze to the window. But the darkness outside was impenetrable, save for the faint glimmer of distant stars.

Y/N searched for any sign of Aro. She called out his name, but her voice echoed unanswered through the empty room. This is when she decided to get dressed and leave the chamber. She slipped on a loose-fitting dress and wrapped the cloak around herself. Yes, she was cold in this fortress. But the cloak was a significant barrier between her pregnancy and the other crimson eyes that lurked in the shadows.

As Y/N made her way down the corridors, time seemed to slow to a crawl. Every creak and groan of the ancient fortress sent a surge of terror through her. Shadows danced on the walls, casting grotesque shapes that seemed to mock her solitude. Yet, she did not find Aro anywhere. Not only was Aro absent, but the other Volturi members seemed to be gone as well.

No sign of Athenodora. No conspicuous sighting of Jane and the other crimson eyed members. Everyone was gone. Except, there was one place she did not search quite yet.

The trial hall

She made her way quickly down the corridor. Her feet hitting the ground with an echoing dance through the long path. Until she came to a halt at the grand double doors leading into the trial hall. She could hear talking coming from within. multiple discussions, voices mixed.

Y/N cautiously opened the heavy door of the trial room. She slipped inside with feline grace, her movements silent as a shadow.

The room was a labyrinth of towering stone walls and flickering torches. The air was thick with tension and the hushed whispers of the gathered vampires. Close-knit groups huddled together, their eyes darting nervously around the room.

Y/N's gaze swept the room, searching for the one she sought. Aro, was perched upon the raised dais at the far end where his seat overlooked the hall. His piercing crimson eyes seemed to scan the room, as if searching for her.

With a surge of trepidation, Y/N made her way through the throng of vampires. As she drew closer to the dais, the whispers grew louder, and curious eyes followed her every step.

Y/N noticed the shiver run down her spin as she moved along. She noticed the groups of eyes watching her every step. She felt exposed. She felt judged and she felt uncomfortable.

Finally, she reached the base of Aro's throne. Aro looked down at her with an inscrutable expression. Y/N only tilted her head slightly as she looked at him. She was trying to comprehend his disposition. She knew he was acting 'off'. Something was not right.
