Y/N made her way to the secluded courtyard. Her footsteps echoed through the stone corridors, carrying her anticipation for the training session that lay ahead.
Lucian had summoned her for another rigorous day of combat. Aro was away on his usual trials, meaning she would not see him until the sun dipped.
As Y/N approached the courtyard, she could hear the clash of steel on steel. Lucian stood in the center, his form a blur as he sparred with Raze. His movements were fluid and precise, each strike carrying the weight of centuries of experience.
Y/N watched with awe and a touch of trepidation. She had witnessed Lucian's prowess in combat, and she knew that this training session would push her to her limits yet again. With a deep breath, she entered the courtyard and approached the two men.
"Lucian," she greeted him.
He turned to face her, his piercing gaze meeting hers. "Y/N. have come to join us huh" he grinned in amusement
"I am ready" she said
Lucian nodded. "Good. We begin with your dagger"
Y/N unsheathed her new dagger. She had always preferred the weight and balance of daggers in her hands. Lucian then took a pair of his own and they faced each other, their blades raised.
The training commenced with a series of quick, precise strikes. Y/N fought valiantly, but Lucian's experience and superior skill were evident. Especially his Lycan strength overpowered her mortal limbs. He moved with an uncanny grace, effortlessly deflecting her attacks and countering with his own.
As the session progressed, Y/N began to feel the strain. Her muscles burned and her breath came in ragged gasps. Yet, she refused to give up. She pushed herself harder, determined to prove her worth to her friend Lucian.
Lucian sensed her determination and increased the intensity of his attacks. He feinted and parried, forcing Y/N to think on her feet. She stumbled and nearly lost her footing, but managed to regain her balance just in time to block a blow that would have sent her crashing to the ground.
With each near miss, Y/N's resolve grew stronger. She would not be defeated. Drawing upon her reserves of strength, she launched a series of relentless attacks, surprising Lucian with her tenacity.
Finally, after an exhausting hour of combat, Lucian called a halt to the training. Y/N stood panting heavily, her body trembling with exertion. Lucian approached her, his expression a mixture of pride and amusement.
"You have fought well, Y/N," he said.
Y/N smiled; her exhaustion forgotten. Both Y/N and Lucian were worn out from training. They both decided to walk to the shaded tree that set along the side of the courtyard. Both Y/N and Lucian sat under the tree with their backs up against the oak.
Beneath the dappled shade of an ancient oak, Lucian and Y/N sat in companionable silence. The training session had been arduous, testing their limits both physically and mentally. But now, as they rested their weary bodies, a sense of accomplishment washed over them.
"If Aro turned on you, do you think you could do it?" Lucian asks as his attention was on the courtyard ahead of them. Y/N turned to face him; her arms crossed as she leaned back on the oak. "What do you mean?" Lucian grimaced slightly and exhaled. "If Aro ever turned on you, do you think you could stop him?" he asked again. This time a clearer understanding for Y/N to understand.
"Aro would never turn on me" she stated. Lucian simply shook his head slightly. As in disagreement. "It's not a matter if you believe he would or wouldn't. Simply, do you believe you could stop him" Lucian asked as he turned his gaze on her. His eyes holding a sincere worry.
Y/N fell silent. Her eyes moved from Lucian and landed on the ground. She was stuck in a moment of contemplation. Her dear friend asked her a question, that now she couldn't answer. "Y/N, I know you love him and for some reason you trust him" Lucian rolled his eyes on the last part. Lucian did not trust any vampires, no matter who they were. "But you need to know how to handle him, in case he ever turned on you" he continued. His voice was deep as he spoke with sincere care for his friend.
Y/N moved her gaze back up at Lucian. "Why would Aro turn on me?" she questioned. Lucian was not sure how to answer the question. He was always careful how he spoke to Y/N "Vampires are a creature just like lycans, they have an instinct that can consume them. no matter how hard they try to hide it, I just want you to be prepared if he ever turns on you. The last thing I want to hear or see is a vampire over you, draining you of your mortal life." Lucian spoke lightly to her.
Y/N grabbed up her dagger that laid in the grass next to her, then she played with the tip of it against her palm. "Aro asked me to use this on him if he ever turned". she said as her attention was now on her dagger. Her thoughts taking course.
"Then he is a smart man" is all that left Lucian's mouth. Then a thought occurred to Y/N. "Lucian, did Sonja ever turn on you?" her voice a bit shaky, she just realized she might've asks an inappropriate question to a man who lost his mate.
Lucian sat in silence for a short while. Then his features changed as he relished a small smile. As if he was replaying delightful memories of his sweet Sonja. He couldn't help the joy forming on his features as he thought and imagined her.
"She did, actually." is all he said. Then he shook the thoughts from his mind. His demeanor straightened. "But, neither of us were mortal" he continued. Y/N slightly nodded in understanding.
Suddenly Y/N heard her name. It was Jane standing on the other side of the courtyard. "Y/N, it is time to head into Volterra" Jane stated plainly. No change in her features. "Oh my, I lost track of time" she quickly jumped up from where she was sitting. Lucian stood as well with questioning eyes. "Where to?" he asked as he sheathed his blade to his side.
"Aro asked me to help with a few things, I guess mortal understandings" she shrugged. "I am going to the town orphanage to help with a few decisions" she added "I'll walk you there" Lucian stated. "No, you don't have to" she quickly spoke. "I want to, you need someone to walk you there" he continued. Y/N nodded, and Lucian followed her out of the courtyard. Jane watched as their figures disappeared. She then grinned as she turned, and her figure disappeared as well.
