Tanis arrived in Volturi after his dreaded journey from the north on Victor's orders. His piercing gaze held a hint of defiance.

As he approached the grand Volturi fortress, the oppressive weight of their presence filled the air. Guards with piercing red eyes and alabaster skin barred his path, their swords gleaming ominously in the dim light.

"Halt, outsider," a voice boomed from within the gate. "State your purpose."

Tanis lifted his chin and spoke with unwavering confidence. "I am Tanis, sent on the order of Viktor from the northern coven, I am here for the Volturi delegations."

A moment of silence hung in the air before the gates slowly creaked open. Tanis stepped inside, his every move echoing through the cavernous halls.

Within the trial room, the Volturi sat in judgment, except for one seat left empty. Their faces expressionless and their eyes as cold as the Arctic tundra and crimson as fresh blood. Aro, with his ethereal gaze and uncanny ability to read minds, regarded him intently.

"Welcome, Tanis," Aro spoke, his voice as smooth as silk. "We are intrigued Viktor sent you in his place."

Tanis bowed respectfully. "I come seeking the witch that has been in your presence"

Aro's eyes narrowed. " The rogue witch?" he smirked

Tanis presented his evidence, detailing how the witch escaped their territory. How Viktor owned rights to her.

Tanis presented the Volturi with an agreement. They hand Y/N back to her rightful northern owners and the north will give Volturi their ancient tomes. But only two tomes, not all five.

After what felt like an eternity, Caius, spoke. "We will consider your request. However, our decision may not be to your liking." He said as his gaze turned to Aro. Caius already knew Aro would not exchange the witch. Especially after he found she was his mate.

Tanis's heart pounded in his chest. He knew the Volturi's reputation for ruthlessness. Yet, he refused to give up hope. If he did not return with the witch, Viktor would banish him and confide him. Or worse.

"I understand," he said. "But I implore you to not wait, Viktor is growing impatient."

Aro smiled thinly. "We will give your request our utmost attention. You may leave now."

"Hold on!" a voice roared through the grand trial room.

Aro, Caius, Tanis and the Volturi members all turned their glance to the grand door where the voice echoed from.

There stood Marcus, he briskly walking past Tanis and taking his seat by Aro and Caius.

"We must make a decision now" he stated as his crimson eyes were fixed on Tanis.

"What are you doing here Marcus? you cannot attend trials until Carlisle allows" Aro stated with a determined stare.

as if eyes could pierce.

"I am fine. I feel rejuvenated. As if my mortality crept back into my bones" Marcus gave a sinister grin.

Aro then turned his gaze back on Tanis.

"What if we trade something more valuable?" Aro stated with sly eyes. "How about a blood-seer in exchange for the tomes?" he continued. His crimson gaze searching through Tanis.

The crimson gaze made Tanis shift where he was standing and swallow hard. The gaze confused Tanis. He could not tell if Aro was being sincere or if he was about to tear him open. As if his crimson eyes were playing a head game. Like a fox hunting a rabbit.

"A different exchange?" Tanis voice croaked in nervousness.

"Precisely, a blood-seer in exchange for our covens ancient tomes return" Aro stated with confidence.

"The delegations were to be for the witch, not a mere blood-seer" Tanis spat.

This gaining a low growl from the back of Aro's throat

"And now they changed. The north will only exchange two of our tomes instead of the five. So, we only exchange half the offering. A blood-seer containing a portion of the witch's power." Aro snarled in justification.

"We have blood-seers in the north. they are not uncommon" Tanis explained

Aro did not seem fazed. His demeanor striking the same tune.

"And two tomes instead of five is useless, if you want the rare witch, then give me my five tomes." Aro was pushing now.

Aro could not possibly exchange his mate. But, he thought exchanging her might save her from being turned and used as a Volturi weapon. Just as he was threatened and tasked to do.

"I'm sorry to disappoint, but if the witch is not coming with me to the north, then I must go back to the north and inform Viktor, he will not be pleased." Tanis stated.

"Since when is he ever pleased" Aro continued with his crimsons set on Tanis. Not a blink going by.

"The witch does belong to the north, Aro." Marcus added.

"And she is within our walls now" Aro spat back with the features of unpleasantry. His piercing gaze now resting on Marcus.

"Let them take the witch back where she belongs, we can get our dear tomes later" Marcus was pushing.

Marcus wants the witch gone. This was the easiest way to get rid of her.

"Am I not the head of our coven?" Aro questioned Marcus in a sinister stare. As if his fangs could speak.

Marcus decided to stay silent and watch. He wanted to see Aro make Viktor angry. This would only help Marcus with his plans.

"There will be no trade today" Aro smoothly said to Tanis as he placed his hands behind his back.

Tanis only nodded his head and swiftly turned to leave the trial room. He made his way down the corridor when he suddenly heard footsteps rushing behind him. He snapped around to see who was following closely behind. There stood Marcus.

"Tanis" Marcus stated in a grin. Like a child happy to see a puppy dog.

"Take this back with you to the north" Marcus continued as he handed Tanis a rolled-up parchment with a red ribbon tied around it.

"Yes, I will" is all Tanis confirmed.

"If you so open it, I will hurt you before Viktor gets his hands on you" Marcus added with a sharp toothy grin. His fangs showing just enough to make Tanis uncomfortable.

"How about you trade me something for a guaranteed" Tanis gestured.

Tanis always was consumed by trade and ancient scrolls. Of course he would want something in exchange.

"Here" Marcus abruptly said as he uncovered a thick leather-bound book from beneath his black cloak. "I figured you would be seeking something of ancient lore"

Tanis grinned as he looked the leather-bound book over. "Elves Lore" it read.

Tanis smiled ear to ear as he took a bow "your letter will reach its destination" as he turned and continued his way out of the Volturi fortress and began his journey back to the north to inform Viktor of his disappointing news.

"Perfect" Marcus stated. As he turned to head his way back into the Volturi trial rooms.
