In the opulent and austere confines of the Volturi trial room, Aro had just concluded a grueling trial. The air hung heavy with tension and the weight of judgment.

As the echoes of the last decree faded into silence, the heavy wooden doors creaked open, admitting Carlisle. Carlisle's demeanor was calm and collected, belying the urgency that had driven him to seek an audience with Aro.

No one else paid attention to Carlisle's entrance as they began to dismiss until further trials in the evening. Once Carlisle noticed the grand room fall empty, he decided to inform Aro.

"Aro," Carlisle began, his voice resonating through the chamber, "I must speak to you with haste."

Aro began his way down the short steps that lead to the Volturi seats. His hands were crossed behind him as his eyes narrowed at Carlisle. "I must speak to you about Y/N" Carlisle stated as he was now standing in front of Aro.

Aro's eyes narrowed slightly. "Is she ok" Aro questioned with solemn eyes.

"I examined her this morning, her wrist is indeed broken, so I had it wrapped. Though, while I was there, I noticed she was unwell. " Carlisle explained. "A fever has gripped her" He stated to Aro.

A flicker of curiosity crossed Aro's face. "A fever?" Aro questioned Carlisle. His voice carried worry within it.

"Indeed," Carlisle agreed. "I will be leaving medicine with you for her to take" he continued as he handed a small bottle to Aro.

Aro pondered for a moment. Then he grabbed the small bottle and placed it within his pocket.

Carlisle nodded gratefully.

As Carlisle turned to leave, Aro's voice stopped him. "Wait, there is something else I must ask."

"What is it?" Carlisle inquired.

"Do you know how fast a witch's magic can heal back to its full power?" Aro's words were laced with a hint of suspicion.

Carlisle hesitated for a moment before replying. "I am not completely sure; I do know it can take some time" Carlisle kept his questioning gaze on Aro. Trying to understand why he was asking him this.

Aro's eyes seemed to bore into Carlisle's very soul. "Just by guessing, do you think think it can reach full power within a month?"

"Well, depends how much she been practicing:" Carlisle affirmed.

Aro nodded slowly. "Very well"

"Why are you asking? Did something happen?" Carlisle asked as he was trying to pry more information from Aro,

"Her magic, Carlisle. It is more potent than we initially believed. I suspect she has been using the full extent of her powers" Aro explained. "I have witnessed this in Venice". He turned his gaze to a bird that was perching just outside the trial window.

"explain" Carlisle asked as he was now also curious.

Aro then explained everything that transpired in Venice. Particularly how she made the document appear in her own hands and disappear in another. Carlisle had a hard time believing Aro's story. He simply said it couldn't be possibly this soon in her recovery. Aro then explained how he been helping her practice out by the gardens every day and never witnessed her magic growing, yet.

Carlisle was now curious. "Is it possible that she simply been hiding her magics growth? Possibly practicing more when you are not around?" he asked Aro.

The words that just left Carlisles throat made Aro's mind race. Why would Y/N hide that from him? Would she not tell him? Has she been hiding this whole time? Then an ancient thought crossed his mind. A tainted thought that he hoped to shake his mind off. Vampires always said Witches were liars and tricksters at heart. Especially the north knew this. Was it possible it was true?

"I do hope that is not true" Aro simply said as he clapped his hands together in front of himself. "Well, I better check on Y/N before the upcoming trial this evening" Aro spoke as his mind still wondered.

"Aro you truly bringing Marcus to trial?" Carlisle asked Aro before he left. "Everyone been talking about it. A few convinced he actually hired the man to murder the witch, and others still following him like a cult." Carlisle smirked at the last part.

Aro's eyes did not dear meet Carlisle's. His attention was directed to his hands that were clasped together. "Marcus is granted a fair trial. If he were not a Volturi member, I would have no mercy upon him" Aro simply spoke. "Do you believe he did it?" Carlisle pushed. " I know he did it." Aro spoke with haste. Carlisle noticed Aro's anger rise when discussing it.

"If Marcus is guilty... will you, do it?" Carlisle was curious. He knew Aro held a deep guilt for Marcus. That is simply why he allowed Marcus to keep performing conundrums and simply brushed him off. Aro was in deep thought to the question. His eyes slightly back and forth. As if he was debating himself.

"I do what is best for the volturi" Aro simply answered as he turned his attention directly on Carlisle. "If he is not guilty, I think he would do it again" Carlisle simply spoke. He knew he spoken out of place. But Aro didn't seem to mind. "I believe he will also" Aro stated. "I believe you will make the right choice... for the volturi of course" Carlisle spoke with a genuine smile.

That is when Carlisle turned to leave and Aro stood in silence. He was frozen with his mind battling itself.

Aro then pulled out the bottle Carlisle gave him and looked upon it. That is when he decided it was time to check on his mate.

Aro paced anxiously through the opulent corridors, his mind consumed by an inexplicable premonition. He suddenly reached the chamber of his beloved Y/N, his breath catching in his chest.

To his astonishment, Y/N was sitting up in bed, her petite form draped with the thin bed sheet. Her usually vibrant eyes were dull and listless, and her skin had taken on an unnerving pallor. A book lay open on her lap, but her gaze was vacant, as if lost in a distant realm.

"My dear, how are you feeling? Carlisle told me you have a fever" He placed a hand upon her cheek as he sat next to her on the bed.

"I feel fine. I just feel tired is all" She spoke softly. "But how are you? You have circled under your lids. Have you been drinking the tea I been making you every morning?" Y/N continued as she gave him a knowing look.

Damn this woman can see right through him

He thought to himself.

"I have been consuming your tea, love." He stated as he placed a kiss upon her forehead.

"You still have trial this evening?" Y/N asked him as she snuggled into him.

"Precisely I do, with Marcus" Aro stated plainly.

"With Marcus?" Y/N questioned him as she backed away slightly to look upon his features.

"Yes, Marcus. I believe he hired the man to kill you" Aro explained to her. "I was going to ask you to come with me to the trail, but, as it seems you need to rest." Aro grasped her hand and began looking upon the bandage Carlisle performed on her wrist.

"I will come" Y/N spoke abruptly. She bagged rising from the bed when Aro made her stop. "No, you need to rest." Aro then handed her the bottle Carlisle gave him. "This is the medicine Carlisle left for you to help with the fever" Aro explained. Y/N grabbed the bottle and placed it on the nightstand. "I am still coming with you; I can rest afterwards" She spoke with determination. Aro sensed he would not be able to pursue her. He simply nodded as she rose from the bed and drank some water before placing her leather boots back on.

From there, Aro and Y/N made their way slowly to the grand trial room. Aro gripping her arm along the way to keep her steady, as the fever seemed to grab hold of her occasionally forcing her to sit.

Today was judgment day, and Aro was not thrilled for the event.
