As Aro delved into her mind, she could hear, see and feel him within her mind palace. She could show him what she knew. Though, she had defense build. She even built a barrier to keep Aro out of certain memories. Particularly the memory of the night she delved into Marcus's mind and what she found there.

Aro noticed these defenses. He always sensed them every time he entered her mind scape. He was curious. He didn't understand why she created these barriers. He wanted to know what she was hiding. This made him wary.

Suddenly, he came to the memory

Suddenly, he came to the memory. She was seated in the garden with Arwen on the marble bench. He heard their conversation play through. Leading to her quick exam with Carlisle.

Aro quickly exited her mind and returned face to face with his mate.

"You're with child" Aro spoke below a whisper. Y/N suddenly opened her eyes. His crimsons meeting her. Y/N did not know how he was taking the news. She couldn't read his eyes. " I am with child" she repeated. Aro stayed silent and still. Y/N kept her gaze on him. She was not sure what he was doing.

Without a warning. Aro pulled her in closer to a deep kiss. He held his hand behind her head and kept his other hand entertained with hers. She was not expecting this reaction.

Aro's heart swelled with a mix of happiness and fear. The news sending a wave of emotions crashing over him, bringing immense joy at the thought of bringing new life into the world, but also fear of the unknown challenges that lie ahead. As he embraced Y/N, tears glistened in his eyes, this time for better reasons. He gripped her hand tightly, knowing they will face this journey together, united in their commitment to each other.

Quickly, Aro came to the realization. Y/N was pregnant. Not only was she with child, but she was also carrying a hybrid. A vampire mixed with a mortal witch. This was forbidden. Hybrids were against ancient law and Aro upheld these laws.

Aro suddenly moved back slightly, so he could look Y/N in the eyes. "Y/N, did you tell anyone about this?" Aro asked her. His voice carrying concern. "Only Athenodora" Y/N assured. "Good. Do not inform anyone else" Aro stated. His demeanor serious and held authority. He was now worried. He was scared for his mate and unborn child. He knew the consequences. He knew what the Volturi would do to her. He even knew the Volturi would make him be the one to do it.

"My orchid" he started. "If I ever bring harm to you or our little one. Do not hesitate again" He stated as he searched her features with his crimsons. Y/N understood. If he ever gone rogue again, she was to use her dagger on him. Precisely, the dagger he had wielded for her. Y/N nodded her head "I understand" she stated. "Promise me" Aro commanded. "I promise" she whispered back to him.

Aro gave her a sincere glare. Yet, his crimsons carried a mix of emotions. Moments ago, he wanted to end his eternal life. Now, he couldn't imagine leaving his mate and unborn child. For if he left this damned world. The Volturi would slaughter them. He would not be here to protect them. He couldn't do that to them, nor to himself.

"You need to rest" Aro then kissed her forehead. "I am fine, I was just heading to the library" she began to stand up. Aro followed her motion and got up off the floor with her. "Then I shall join you" Aro grasped her hand and gave a gentle smile. "Are you ok?" she questioned him. She was still worried about his state of mind. He did not look well. She still noticed the dark circles that shown under his eyes. She even paid attention to the pale shade of his skin. He seemed more pale than usual. Even his crimsons were tainted. They did not hold the usual ruby. Instead, they appeared faded. "I am ok now" is all he spoke. He then passed by her, with their hands joined as he led her out of the ancient dusty room. Down the spiral stairs and through the hall. Eventually, they made it down the enormous corridor until they reached their destination.

As they ventured deeper into the labyrinthine library, their eyes scanned the shelves, searching for a story left unread. Suddenly, their gaze fell upon a familiar figure standing amidst the towering stacks. It was Elrond. Of course he was still in the library.

Elrond held a stack of leather-bound volumes in his hands, their pages yellowed with age.

"Elrond," Aro greeted respectfully.

Elrond looked up from his books, his eyes meeting theirs. "Ah, Aro and Y/N." he smiled at the sight of the two.

"I see you are feeling better" Elrond stated. "Yes, I am doing much better" Aro answered. Yet, Y/N side eyed him. She knew he was lying. He was the opposite of better. He was sick, he almost killed himself. Aro was not ok in any form. No matter mortal or immortal.

"That is good to hear" Elrond closed the book he was looking through. He then added it to his stack of literature. "Actually, Aro, I was wondering if I could seek Y/N's help before we leave to Rivendell" Elrond added. Yes, he could have just asked Y/N himself. But, in Volturi it was respectful to ask Aro permission. Especially when it came to a lady, let alone his mate.

"What for?" Y/N asked before Aro could. "I thought we could stroll the gardens, I heard there are medicinal plants" Elrond gave Y/N a glance. The kind of glance children use when keeping a secret and were lying to their parents. "Of course!" Y/N just about shouted. "I can... take you there is evening" Y/N exclaimed. "Perfect, I shall see you then" Elrond gave a nod and strode past Aro and Y/N as he left the library.

Y/N understood the assignment. He gave her the empty bottle the elves found outside. He knew her medicinal knowledge. She was a witch and witches in the north were known to these types of tinctures and poisons. He wanted her to find out what caused Aro to go rogue. Whatever was in the bottle, was also traced in his drink that day. Someone spiked it and Elrond wanted her to figure it out. Why was Aro not included in this mystery? She did not know.

As the day wore on, Aro and Y/N spent time together. They enjoyed each other's company in the library as they usually have. Y/N would pick out a story, and aro would read to her as they sat on the settee. Y/N always enquired for him to read. He had literate knowledge from a time she wasn't born. His tongue for Shakespeare was like no other. So, she sat there and enjoyed her mate's company. It could have been a different tragedy if she did not get to Aro earlier. Yet here they were.
