Caius guided Aro towards the trial room. Each step they took was deliberate and measured, the echoes of their footsteps reverberating through the desolate corridors.
Caius observed Aro's frail form with concern. The once-proud vampire now moved with a noticeable limp. With every step, Caius could sense the way Aro's body trembled, a silent testament to the pain he was enduring.
As they approached the trial room, the tension in the air grew palpable. The room was dimly lit, as the dawns sunlight was still rising. casting an eerie glow upon the walls. Caius could feel the weight of centuries of judgment hanging heavy in the atmosphere.
Caius waved the guards to open the heavy doors. The trial room was filled with elders and Volturi council. Mostly those on Marcus's side. Anyone else who would've countered his movement was more than likely executed.
Aro, summoning his remaining strength, slowly made his way to the center of the room. This is where the prisoners normally stood whenever he casted judgement. Caius settled beside Marcus, who was now in Aro's seat looking down upon Aro.Aro's knees were giving out as he felt a throbbing pain shoot through his chest. He suddenly knelt on both knees as he looked up upon his judgement.
The trial began with a recitation of the charges against Aro. He had been accused of consorting with humans, especially the witch, Y/N. Not only consorting, but he was mating with the witch. A grave offense in the eyes of the coven. The evidence against him was damning. Especially when they brought up how Aro went rogue, and he was ill.
As the trial progressed, Caius couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for Aro. He understood the temptation to seek solace in the company of humans, even if it meant breaking the coven's laws. He even knew Aro was destined and mated to Y/N. But he also knew that the consequences of such actions were severe. He just didn't think Aro would ever be replaced for it. He didn't think Marcus would follow through with his plan.
The air crackled with tension as Marcus pronounced Aro's judgment.
"Aro" He spoke through a snare " for your crimes against the Volturi and the vampire world, you are hereby sentenced to execution," he declared, his voice echoing through the vast chamber and his features carrying praise. Marcus was deeply happy, and it was all out on display. Aro could tell this was a dream come true for Marcus.A collective gasp rippled through the assembled vampires. Aro, the former leader, had fallen from grace. Yes, the elders and Volturi council were aware Aro would be punished in some way. They even knew he was replaced due to Sedrick's signature. But they never thought it would go this far.
As Marcus's words hung in the air, guards surged forward and seized Aro. His once-proud countenance now bore a look of disbelief and despair as he was dragged from the hall. His legs dragging behind him.
In the courtyard, Volturi trumpets began to play and the rain continuously poured. The trumpets were a Volturi tradition. A dark tradition from centuries past. There was large wooden stake, sharpened to a deadly point, laying on the ground. The guards stopped in the center of the courtyard as they began to bound Aro's hands, his once-crimson eyes now clouded with fear.
Aro was ready to die. He wished for death as if it were a shooting star. But now, seeing his fate splayed in front of him. He obtained a sudden feeling of regret mixed with immense fear.
Marcus emerged from the hall and stood in front of Aro with the stake in his hand. "Aro, you have brought this upon yourself," he said "May your soul never find peace in the afterlife"
With a swift and practiced motion, Marcus raised the stake high above. As if he was finding his aim.
Aro's heart pounded in his chest like a war drum. He knew that his time had run out. The damp wetness of the rain was dripping off his finger tips. The sound of the water hitting the cold stoned ground beneath him was deafening.
