A palpable tension hung in the air. Aro stood motionless, his piercing crimson eyes fixed on the figure of Marcus standing before Sedrick. Aro jerked Y/N with him to the main hall where they now stood. Aro did scent him out. Unfortunately, this was not in Marcus's favor.

There Marcus stood in Sedrick's presence. He had the document in his hands as he handed it off to Sedrick. Y/N watched what was unfolding before them. She recognized the man. He was the dame man she saw when they first arrived to this grand estate.

"What is he doing?" Jane asked in eagerness. Y/N never heard Jane's voice be this different. "He is about to start a war" Aro plainly said. He then started his way towards Marcus and Sedrick.

"Ahhh, Aro" Sedrick greeted Aro as he witnessed him coming in their direction, directly behind Marcus. Marcus did not seem fazed that Aro was now standing directly next to him. Especially with Y/N and Jane right by his side. "What are you doing away from your chamber, Marcus?" Aro gaze a devilish stare at Marcus. Still, the vampire did not seem fazed.

"Marcus was just delivering the documents to me" Sedrick stated as he held it up in his hands. The piece of paper seemed to not be read yet. "I believe I made a mistake and need to correct it" Aro stated as he reached to grab the form. "No need" Sedrick smiled at Aro. "It does not need to be perfect, just signed" he continued as he folded the paper and placed it in his pocket.

"If I may..." Aro started, trying to keep a calm demeanor. Until Marcus cut him off. "It is signed" Marcus gave a side glare to Aro. "If I remember correctly, I never signed it" Aro blurted out. Y/N noticed the tension was rising. He was squeezing her hand a bit more than usual. As if her touch was the only thing holding him back.

"Marcus told me you signed it and ordered him to deliver it himself" Sedrick questioned as he glanced at the two ladies next to Aro. Aro kept his unkind eyes on Marcus. "I believe Marcus is mistaken; he drank too much blood-wine tonight" Aro spoke with the flick of his fangs. "I carry the guts you don't have" Marcus spat.

Aro narrowed his eyes in question. Aro knew ever since their past incident, Marcus never been the same. However, he never been this blunt and absurd until Y/N showed up in Volturi.

"All you carry is shame to our coven, drunkenness and unloyalty" Aro let go of Y/N's hand. Aro was now his immortal self. The same enigmatic leader of the Volturi, now in his full form. "You have been nothing but unfaithful these past months, I HEAR NOTHING BUT..." Aro took a breath, he lowered his voice into a civil tone. "Cruel obscenities from your mouth" Aro's face was inches from Marcus's.

"You know nothing of cruel" Marcus finally spoke. "You try to protect the immortal and mortal world, but you do not protect your own family." Marcus continued. Aro's eyes slightly changed. They were full of rage, though now they seemed to be melting into something else. Y/N was not understanding where this conversation was going.

family?

"I protect all that is just in our ancient laws" Aro spoke back. He then turned his attention away from Marcus as he turned to Sedrick to ask for the paper in return. "The same laws you placed on your sister?" Marcus questioned him sarcastically. This made Aro freeze in his tracks. His hand frozen midair, then he dropped his hand into a tight fist at his side.

Aro turned his crimson glare back on Marcus. "You did it for the Volturi, right. You always uphold these ancient laws. For whom may I ask? for yourself? for the mortals? or for the immortals?" Marcus spat each line sharply.

Aro stayed silent. His eyes moved to the floor. Marcus took a brusk step towards Aro. "You act like you're high and mighty. You only make decisions based on laws that were created centuries ago. It is time for a new era. We need modern laws. We need to make changes, and if you won't do it. Then I must" Marcus spoke with haste.

Aro's gaze landed back on Marcus. His eyes narrowed at what he just heard. "It is my job to uphold our ancient laws. If I don't then no one will, this is a fine example of it. if we do not uphold some civility, then we are no better than the Lycans. We do not behave as animals; we do not feast like animals and we do not fuck like animals" Aro spoke with a high regard. Y/N couldn't help but slightly blush at the last part. If only she could feel the difference, she thought to herself.

"What if we want to?" Marcus was pushing Aro's nerves. What if we don't want the ancient laws anymore. Let us behave as animals, Aro. I think when your precious laws and tomes are gone, I am going to fuck her first" Marcus gestured to Y/N as he lifted a hand and started in her direction. This made her back away closer to Jane. Quickly, Aro grabbed Marcus by the same hand he had pointed. It was a quick motion before Y/N. Aro's fangs were in full view and he gave a dark hiss. Aro's face was now only inches from Marcus.

Marcus stared at Aro; his jaw clenched in frustration. He had never been one to back down from a challenge, especially when it came to matters of the heart. But Aro's threat from his hiss sent a chill down his spine, a warning that he knew could not be taken lightly. As much as he longed to rid of Y/N, he knew that crossing Aro would only lead to disaster. So, Marcus swallowed his pride and nodded silently, his eyes never leaving Aro's intense gaze.

"When you are in your chamber, laying in the dark starring at your ornate ceiling. Do you ever think about your sister?" Marcus spoke in almost a whisper. Aro let go of Marcus. His gaze still. "Lock him in the dungeon" Aro spoke with intensity. That is when Y/N realized Armand was standing behind her and Jane. He motioned his hands silently in the air as two guards walked past them and straight for Marcus. They confined his wrists behind his back and briskly walked him away. Leaving only his shoulder shoving into Aro as he was escorted.

Aro then turned his attention back to Sedrick and the women standing before him. "Sorry, blood-wine consumes Marcus's actions" Aro stated. "I actually do need to make a change to the document before it is given to the council." Aro gestured to Sedrick.

"I'm afraid I already sent it. While you two were bickering, one of the elders said they couldn't wait anymore" Sedrick gave a sly smile. This irritated Aro. He knew Marcus was up to no good. He knew it was not the blood-wine that infiltrated Marcus's mind. It was resentment, it was revenge, it was outrage.

"Good" is all Aro said in a soft voice. Y/N knew it was not 'good', but Aro kept his appearance simple. "May we go converse?" Aro stated as he gestured for Y/N to leave with him. Y/N simply nodded her head. The man that was claimed to be Sedrick only gave Y/N a devilish grin as he watched her leave with Aro. Jane simply turned around where she was standing, only to head back in the direction they came from. Possibly to notify the others of the conundrum.

Y/N's mind was racing. She heard the two men's conversation. Who couldn't. She had many questions. who was Marcus talking about? Y/N seen through Aro's mind when she returned the favor of delving in each other's minds the first time they met. She knew he had family. However, why was this one family member of Aro's past so important now? Why would Marcus be angry?

Aro was pulling Y/N with him. Until they escaped the crowded venue and were found in the quiet of night. They went down a set of steps that led to the estate garden. It was as grand as the Volturi gardens. Only stars were shining, and the crickets were singing. The only other sound surrounding them was the faint music being played within the building.
