Y/N watched in awe as Aro's fingers danced effortlessly across the keys of the piano forte. Aro hadn't noticed watching from the doorway.
Aro paused, his senses keenly attuned to the presence of Y/N lingering in the shadows of the doorway. Though he did not turn to face her, his movements subtly shifted, a silent acknowledgment of their quiet observation. The air between them crackled with unspoken words and unanswered questions, each moment stretching taut like a finely tuned bowstring.
Then he turned his head slowly, a knowing smile dancing on his lips as he caught her eye. Y/N felt a blush creeping up her cheeks as she realized she had been caught staring. Aro raised an eyebrow, his gaze intense yet strangely inviting. Without breaking eye contact, he extended his hand towards her, silently beckoning her to come closer. Y/N hesitated for a moment before taking a tentative step forward, the air between them charged with unspoken tension.
"Closer" Aro patted the bench he was sitting on, indicating for her to sit right next to him.
Y/N inched her way and took a seat right next to him on the piano bench. Their shoulders side by side touching. This is the closest Y/N ever been to Aro. A bit too close for comfort, especially when seated next to a vampire.
Y/N made sure her hair was still brushed over her shoulder just enough to cover the nasty cut on her face. Even though Athenodora tried covering it with makeup earlier that day at tea. Y/N still did not want Aro to notice. So she decided to keep her eyes on the piano keys laid in front of them.
The sense of the room was calm and she did not feel scared of Aro. His presence comforting within the cold shadowy Volturi walls.
"Do you play?" Aro gestured to the piano
Y/N smiled and nodded, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "I can play a little," she replied shyly. Aro beckoned her with his hand at the grand piano that sat in front of them.
Y/N hesitated for a moment before placing her fingers on the keys. As she began to play a soft melody, the room fell silent, captivated by the beautiful music that filled the air. Aro watched her intently, a small smile playing on his lips as he listened to the sweet notes drifting through the room. Y/N's hands moved effortlessly across the keys, each note filled with emotion and grace.
he had found someone truly special
Aro recognized the melody. It was a song before Y/N's time, but it was during Aro's.
It was a northern lullaby.
Aro listened to Y/N play the northern lullaby on the piano, memories flooded back to him. The melody seemed to echo through the room, transporting him to a time long ago when life was simpler, and his heart was lighter. Each note tugged at his soul, unraveling emotions he had long kept hidden. He closed his eyes, letting the music wash over him, feeling a sense of peace he hadn't experienced in years. Lost in the enchanting tune, Aro felt a flicker of hope reignite within him, whispering of new beginnings and second chances.
As Aro's eyes were closed, he was transported back to his childhood in the greek village. The lullaby had been a constant presence in his life. No one knew, as Aro never spoke to anyone about his past mortal life, let alone his childhood.
Then he heard a soft voice singing with the piano forte. It was Y/N. She was singing in a foreign tongue he did not understand. But he did not need to know the tongue she was speaking in to understand the words that flowed off her lips. He could hear the meaning behind those words from her soft singing. He realized it was the same soft voice that was singing down the corridors. Hauntingly beautiful. Her voice as soft as his mothers.
His mother was a northern woman who was married off to his Greek father. Aro grew up Greek, but his mother would sing him lullaby and read him stories of the north.
