Y/N stirred in her slumber, her eyelids fluttering open with a heavy sense of dread. She was still clad in yesterday's attire, its fabric clinging uncomfortably to her body. As her consciousness returned, she could feel the remnants of dried tears upon her face, a testament to the anguish she had endured.
A sharp pang of despair coursed through her as she realized the futility of her slumber. The weight of her situation pressed down upon her like a suffocating blanket. She knew that she could not escape the impending madness that awaited her.
Again, a sharp pain shooting through her, this time in her abdomen. Groaning in discomfort, she sat up and rubbed her swollen stomach with trembling hands. The pain had become increasingly unbearable. With a weary sigh, Y/N rose from her bed, her movements slow and labored. Her chamber was a sanctuary no more, its walls seemed to close in on her, trapping her in a prison of her own making.
Y/N made her way to the chair by the window. She sat down heavily, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The pain seemed to intensify with each passing moment, making it difficult to concentrate.
Unbeknownst to her, Aro observed her silently from his secluded and hidden entrance. His piercing gaze followed her every movement, his concern etched upon his timeless features. He had been watching her all night. He watched her after he lost his mind on the drunkenness from the blood wine. He could not stay in the chamber anymore. Every detail of the room contained her in it.
As Y/N sat in the chair. Her mind lost in the pain she was feeling. She could hear a voice. A voice speaking within her mind. Yet, she could not tell if the voice was current or a distant memory.
Aro, whose voice echoed within her mind, as if it had taken up residence in the deepest recesses of her consciousness. At first, Y/N was bewildered, questioning the sanity of her own thoughts. Again, debating if it were a memory of a constant reminder.
"Take deep breaths, Y/N," he would whisper, his voice a gentle caress against her troubled soul. "Breathe and let go of the weight that burdens you."
With each inhale, Y/N felt a surge of calm wash over her, dissipating the anxiety and fear that had consumed her. Aro's words became her mantra, a lifeline in the turbulent waters of her newfound reality. She began to feel the sharp pains subsiding. Her breaths replacing the sharp inhales from the pain.Aro noticed her relaxing. He knew she could hear him. He needed her to hear him. Yet, he needed to keep covered. He then turned away and left. Making his way down the corridor into the dining hall in search of Jane.
His crimson eyes scanned the hall
There, at the far end of the table, sat Jane, her pale face illuminated by the sunlight entering from the far windows. Her lips were stained a deep red, and her eyes held a feral gleam as she feasted ravenously on the fresh blood in her goblet.
A wave of unease washed over Aro. He had never witnessed Jane indulge in such a display before. She had always been meticulous in her habits.
"Jane," Aro's voice echoed through the hall, breaking the silence.
Jane's head snapped up, her eyes widening in surprise. She had not expected to be addressed. Especially this early in the day.
"Yes?" she replied, her voice a low whisper.
"I require your assistance," Aro said. "Contact Carlisle Cullen. Inform him that I wish to inquire about the well-being of Y/N and her pregnancy."
Jane's confusion was evident in her expression. " Why? She is our prisoner."
Aro hesitated for a moment, his lips parting slightly. "Her condition concerns me. I wish to ensure that she and the child are safe."
Jane's eyes narrowed. "But why? She poses a threat to us. Why should we care for her well-being?"
A flicker of sadness crossed Aro's face. "She still deserves our compassion. And the child..." He paused, his voice trailing off. "The child is our responsibility until Viktor arrives. He does not want any damaged goods"
Jane's gaze softened slightly. She had considered Y/N a friend. But she served the Volturi and she would always follow through with Volturi orders. Especially following Aro around. But Aro's words planted a seed of doubt in her mind.
"Very well" she said. "I will contact Carlisle Cullen immediately."
As Jane got up from her seat and turned to leave, Aro reached out and touched her hand. "Thank you, Jane," he said. "I appreciate your cooperation."
Jane glanced back at him, a hint of gratitude in her eyes. For the first time, she felt a glimmer of hope that there was more to Aro than she had realized. Yet, she held confusion. Aro was touching her. Aro never showed compassion before. Why was he thanking her for a command he had given.Aro did not notice his strange habit. He was aching for the touch of his mate. Yet, Jane would have to do. It was a motion he unknowingly developed from being around his mortal mate. Y/N thought if he began showing gratitude, that he could possibly blend in with the mortals.
Jane quickly scurried away to fulfill the task.
Aro truly was concerned for Y/N. He couldn't enter the chamber, for he knew he would lose himself to Y/N. He could not look her in the eyes again after what he had done. He needed to follow through with the plan. Yet, he also needed to make sure Y/N and the baby were alright as well.
Aro then left the dining hall. Before he left, he caught sight of the fruit bowl on the table. He picked it up and carried it in his arms. Yes, Aro and the Volturi did not eat these. He couldn't understand why they were even in the Votluri fortress. He smirked at the idea. How silly it truly was. He knew in reality; the fruit were placed there just for looks. To make such a dark place look somewhat normal. Especially to those who entered.
Aro knew Y/N needed to eat. He knew she couldn't pass up fruit in the mornings. So, with stride he carried the bowl and placed it by her door. He knocked only once then left quickly to avoid any contact with her.
Then he began his day. His daily routine as the Volturi leader. He made his way to the trial room and sat upon his seat. Today was feasting day and they had a group of tourists heading their way.
