Y/N ascended the spiral staircase, its stone steps worn smooth by centuries of secretive tread. The grand dining hall below echoed with the distant murmurs of the Volturi, their presence casting an ethereal chill upon the air.
With a heart pounding with anticipation, Y/N reached the summit of the staircase and pushed open a heavy wooden door. A hush fell over her as she stepped into the dust filled room. The same chair she found long ago still where she left it.
She coughed lightly from the thickened air. "Aro" she softly asked as she looked among the room. It was dark up there. Pure darkness filling every corner and crevice. She then repeated herself "Aro" she spoke slightly louder. She then stayed silent and still. She was trying to hear for any sound of movement. Her eyes were open, but better off closed.
Out of nowhere, she heard her name. Yet, she did not know which direction it was coming from. "Y/N" below a whisper. It was Aro's voice. "Aro, I come to see you. Please talk to me" she spoke warmly through the cold room.
That is when her shoulders reached her ears as she felt a hand on her shoulder from behind. He then walked around to face her. All she could see was the candlelight he was holding. Casting long shadows along the room's ancient walls. She could see the silhouette of his features. Yet, he was almost a shadow himself.
"You shouldn't have come" he spoke. His eyes were barely opened as he looked down. He wouldn't dare look her in the eyes. She noticed he was wearing his cream-colored tunic he unusually wore at night. He seemed to not have left this room for far too long. He even carried the dark circles below his eyes. This indicating he had not been drinking anymore tea since the incident.
"I need to talk to you, Aro" she softly spoke "NO" Aro abruptly spoke. This making Y/N silent. Yet, she was not going to leave. No matter what she could not see Aro lock himself up anymore. She was not going to give up. Aro realized his reaction and corrected his stance. He cleared his throat and began with a gentle tone. "No, Y/N. there is nothing to talk about" he spoke. His gaze set on the candle between them.
Y/N reached her hands out and wrapped them onto Aro's hands that were holding the candle. As if they were both holding each others hands in prayer. "Please, Aro. I need you." Her eyes were sparkling from the candlelight as she kept her gaze on him. Aro then flicked his eyes onto hers. "Y/N, you should not be near me. I am a monster" he spoke. His words above a whisper. "Aro, you are not a mo.." Y/N was cut off by Aro. "I am a monster; I could've killed you. I was going to kill you" he spoke harshly. He was about to turn away, but Y/N grabbed his arm quickly. "Aro" But he brushed her touch away as he wondered to the other end of the room.
Y/N stood there in silence as she watched him hide in his own shadows. She did not know what to do. She understood why he was not coming around her. He became rogue and blamed himself for it. He almost killed Y/N and he did not want to harm her anymore. He could not live with himself. He became the nightmare she found at night.
Y/N took a deep breath as she turned and went back down the spiraled stairs. She would have to try speaking with him another time. She tried the first attempt and apparently, he needed more time.
Y/N decided to go to the library. She needed a place to think clearly without any noise or disturbance. She needed the sweet solitude of the ancient library.
As Y/N was making her way down the corridors. She rounded the corner and almost collided with a figure. "I am so sorry; I did not see you" she quickly spoke. "No issue at all, Y/N" the man spoke. She looked up and quickly realized it was Elrond. "Oh, Elrond" she spoke in surprise when she realized who it was. "It is alright" he spoke kindly. "Where are you hurrying off to?" Elrond asked. "I am on my way to the library" she indicated to the direction she was heading in. "What a coincidence. I am looking for the library myself" he added. "I can take you there" she inquired. Elrond nodded in agreement "Thank you, Y/N" he spoke
Y/N walked down the corridor and through the hall with Elrond by her side. She felt awkward walking with him. Neither of them speaking. That was until Elrond spoke up. "I hear you're knowledgeable in Medicinal's" Elrond asked her. "I am, actually" Y/N answered as they kept on their path. "Did you find out what made Aro go rogue?" he asked. Y/n was puzzled by the question. She did not know what he was implying. "What do you mean?" Y/N narrowed her eyes and stopped in her tracks. "Aro's senses were unnaturally enhance. Thus, causing him to become rogue" Elrond continued. "Here" he handed Y/N a small bottle. "What is this?" Y/N questioned as she grasped the small bottle. "It contained the liquid that was in Aro's drink, my elven guard found it outside Volturi" Elrond looked Y/N in the eyes. As if he were searching for her inside and out. "However, the type of mixture it was, I am not certain. Maybe you would know it?" Elrond questioned.
Elrond mentioned this to Y/N because he heard about her skills in natural medicine. She knew her herbs and she knew her poisons. He figured she would figure it out. "Thank you" Y/N held up the small bottle in her hand.
"Also, I am curious." Elrond continued "I have been hearing talk, that you were going to use a dagger on Aro. Does it harm vampires?" Elrond was curious. He never knew of such a weapon that could do any harm to vampires. Especially a blade of any sort. "Yes, Aro had it made for me." Y/N quickly took her hand and reached for her dagger which was to be sheathed. However, her grasp found vacancy.
her dagger was gone
Y/N's eyes grew big, and she began patting everywhere on her body searching for it.
"What's the matter?" Elrond asked her curiously.
"My dagger, it was just ...." Suddenly, Y/N realized. She did have her dagger, up until she seen Aro.
