Upon finishing her letter, Ebany placed it in an envelope and tossed it to send it on its way. She hoped that she didn't send it at an inopportune time. Ebany decided to look at the book Merlin sent her to see what it had. She finished the cheese danish she had been eating and flipped to the first few pages. There were simple spells that she was familiar with and they slowly got harder. There was even an age spell in there! Age spells were difficult to cast since it was altering one's age to become younger or older.

Ebany kept looking at the spells. There were transfigurations, some charms, defensive and offensive spells for combat, and more. Ebany wondered if she should try a few. At least the simple ones in the meantime. For the rest of the afternoon, Ebany tried out the easy spells while Benjy was on standby to make sure nothing went completely out of hand. It went well with the simple spells and it gave Ebany some confidence to increase the difficulty. The only thing to do was choose which one. Maybe a combative spell for when she went off on her own, met an enemy, or faced a dissenter.

Ebany had yet to mention that detail to her friends and family... If anything, they would have been alerted by her soul flower withering and then reviving. It was how everyone could keep an eye on their loved one's status while they were away. Soul flowers were magical plants that displayed if someone died or remained alive. Ebany's was connected to her lifespan and undoubtedly died when she did the night Juno killed her. Considering she never got a letter about the matter, it seems to have gone unnoticed. Ebany didn't know how to bring it up as it was a concerning topic and wouldn't be a pleasant conversation.

Moving that thought out of her mind for the time being, Ebany looked back at the pages and discussed with Benjy what spell to try out. It was a tough one as there were many interesting ones. Maybe a transfiguration spell that changes something's shape? That sounded like a good start. Ebany looked at the list of spells and settled on turning a carrot into chocolate. Ebany recited the spell and snapped her fingers. It half worked. Half the carrot she had was turned into chocolate. She had a taste and it was okay. The carrots she had were gifts from Hector and Georgina and she didn't have the heart to refuse them.

Why? Ebany hated carrots! She couldn't stand that earthy plant taste no matter what state they were in. Raw, cooked, boiled, it was all yuck to her! Fortunately, Benjy was there to eat them as he uses them to make a salad for himself. He had one left over and it was the one Ebany used. Ebany decided that she would stop for now and look at more spells later. Right now, she put the scales and book she had gotten from her friends in her room. Edan made sure to have a couple of bookshelves made for Ebany since he knew she was a bookworm. Ebany wondered how Edan was doing. Hopefully, he and Narinder would clear things up... somehow.

What would the cat do once he was better?

Try and kill Edan?

Run away and never come back?

Where would he go?

So many questions with only time bringing answers...

Then Ebany realized something. When it was time for her to go home, she would have to say goodbye for now to Edan and the rest of her friends.... Forneus, Anya, all the townsfolk, and more...

It would be a bittersweet farewell.

Ebany would go home...
