When all the celebrating was over, and Terach was dumped into a guest tent after he passed out drunk, Ebany met up with Edan and Narinder for a talk. Richy went to Ebany's house with the pups to give them privacy. They told her about when they plan to perform the ritual to turn Narinder into a demigod. Edan didn't want to be alone and he needed guidance on how to be the god of death. Narinder probably couldn't ascend completely into a full god so a demigod was the next best thing.

"So you plan to do it on Halloween night?" Ebany asked them.

"Mmhmm." Edan nodded.

"That's a good idea since día de los muertos is the next day." Ebany mentioned.

"Rose told me about that holiday many times. She would say it was a day to honor and remember those long departed." Narinder mentioned.

"It is. People in my family's homeland, not the place we live in now, gather in cemeteries and clean up their family graves and crypts. Marigolds and other flowers are placed on them, as well as ribbons, blankets, bread, and candles. Pictures too. My mom visits her mother's grave every year and participates in día de los muertos where she used to live. It's a whole lot easier now that her dad's locked up." Ebany explained.

"What do you mean???" Edan became curious.

Ebany explained where her mother had come from. It was an island, far from where they lived now. Feniks was actually a princess of the islands known as the Fire Isles or the Isles of Fire. Her father was a tyrant but he wasn't always like that. He grew cold and butter after Aurora, his wife, died. Aurora was Ebany's maternal grandmother, but she never got to meet her. Queen Aurora died from an illness that was lethal to phoenix kin. They couldn't make the cure in time and she didn't make it. Since that day, her husband, the former good king, changed. No longer was he the loving father Feniks knew, he had become a bitter old man.

Years after her mother's death, Ebany's maternal grandfather arranged for Feniks to marry a rather undesirable man to gain more power. Feniks had enough of her father controlling her life and made herself clear that she wouldn't marry that prick. Her father didn't take it well and punished her severely... Feniks was scarred for the rest of her life after a fight. Her father had the ability to use blue fire and had burned his daughter's back which left behind a terrible burn. Feniks spent many days in bed and she was too marry her fiancé upon recovering. Fortunately for her, Feniks had a lovely lady in waiting that helped her escaped. They still kept in touch!

Feniks made it to Noonveil where she lived on the run and didn't stay in one place for very long. Once her father caught wind of her escape, he sent two of his sons after her. Needless to say, they failed time and time again. Although not part of Rose's family line, Feniks had the power of song. She used it to defeat her brothers again and again. Feniks lived on the road for a century before she met Lumen. He was traveling with Karrus then and they helped her out. After Feniks learned that she could trust them, she allowed Lume to examine her wound. He had offered to help her but he said that he would do so only with her consent.

Thanks to Lume's healing hand, Feniks' scar, which covered the majority on her back improved and the pain slowly disappeared. If only her brothers could disappear from her life! They kept coming back like a bad ear infection until they got themselves banned for life. It was either they accept that or prison. Lume knew some lawyers thanks to his sister. After they left, Feniks could finally rest easy without having to look over her shoulder. Not only did Feniks find freedom, a new home, she found love. She and Lumen became quite close in the time they spend together while traveling. It wouldn't be much longer until he proposed to her and she accepted. Some time before Ebany was born, she received word from one of her sisters that their father had been deposed.
