The younger girl stood outside the university, taken aback by the unusual sight of the older woman, waiting to pick her up after school. It was a first-time in many years, and she hurriedly walked towards the car. She gently knocked on the car window, and as it slid down, Lingling beckoned her to get in. "How did you know it's my dismissal time?"
Lingling casually replied. "I didn't know, I just waited."
Orm's eyes widened in astonishment, prompting a chuckle from the CEO. "Why do you look surprised?"
"Oh, because this is the first time you've picked me up?" Orm said awkwardly.
"This is not the first time, Nong Orm. I used to pick you up in 7th grade when I learned to drive a car."
Acknowledging the past, she nodded. "You have a point, but I meant it's the first time today."
Lingling playfully assured her. "Well, get used to it now. If I have time, I'll start picking you up." Orm's heart swelled with happiness, appreciating the gesture.
As they fell into a moment of silence, the older woman broke it by muttering, "Do you have plans? If not, let's do something."
Suddenly remembering their agreement, Orm hesitated, apologizing. "I can't have sex with you today, I'm on my period."
Lingling chuckled, "I'm not talking about that, Nong. I meant doing something like going out. Where would you like to go?"
Embarrassed, Orm shared her desire to visit an amusement park or go ice skating, lamenting the lack of companions due to friends' prior commitments.
Listening intently, Lingling checked her watch before nodding. "Let's go ice skating first, then the amusement park. Sounds good?"
Orm's face lit up with a sweet smile as she eagerly nodded excitedly.
As they entered the ice skating park, The shorter one, hesitant about her skating abilities, suggested that she would just watch her but Orm, determined to share this experience, insisted they both give it a try.
She watched the skaters nervously. "I don't think I can skate. I'll just watch you. It's harder than I thought."
The blonde girl shook her head. "Come on, I'll teach you. It'll be fun, I promise!"
Reluctantly, Lingling put on a pair of skates, holding onto the railing for support as she stepped onto the ice. Orm, skating effortlessly beside her, extended her hand, encouraging the woman to join her in the center of the rink.
"I really don't know how to do this. I might fall." Lingling expressed her concern.
"Don't worry, I've got you. Just follow my lead." Orm reassured her, guiding her with patience and care.
At first, she was scared to skate, but as she moved across the ice with Orm's help, she started to feel really excited. She learned to balance and had a lot of fun, feeling a rush of happiness she didn't expect. "I can't believe I'm actually doing this!"
Orm laughed. "See, I told you it would be fun! You're a natural, Ling." . "You just need to make time for fun things in your life, not just work. Don't let work take over everything."
They laughed together as they skated around the rink. Lingling felt happy and free, and she felt close to the younger one as they skated next to each other. Orm was encouraging her the whole time.
After that they were getting ready to ride a big, red and yellow roller coaster. The air felt exciting, and they could hear people screaming as they rode, both scared and excited.
"Are you sure about this, Phi?" Orm asked, her voice a touch shaky. "It looks...intense."
Lingling, usually the calm and collected one, felt a knot of anxiety tightened in her stomach. "I...I don't know." She admitted. "I've always been scared of heights."
Orm's eyes softened with understanding. "It's okay to be scared and I think it would be amazing to conquer this fear together. We can do this!"
Lingling hesitated, her gaze flickering between the imposing rollercoaster and the girl's reassurance smile. "But what if I can't handle it? What if I freak out?"
Orm squeezed her hand. "You won't. I'll be right here with you, every step of the way. We'll face this beast together, and you'll see, it's not as scary as it looks."
The older woman took a deep breath, her fear slowly giving way. "Okay." She said, her voice is stronger now. "Let's do this."
They climbed into the rollercoaster, their hearts pounding in their chests. As the car lurched forward, Lingling's stomach lurched with it. But instead of panicking, she focused on their intertwined hands, feeling a surge of courage.
"Look at the view!" Orm exclaimed, pointing to the vibrant park spread out below them. "Isn't it amazing?"
The rollercoaster twisted and turned, dipping and soaring. Each time they plummeted downward, Lingling's fear threatened to overwhelm her. But then she'd look at Orm, her face alight with excitement, and a smile would spread across her own face. For the whole ride, her eyes are kept on the taller one's face, her thumb involuntarily rub against the girl's skin. "So beautiful."
As the ride finally came to a stop, Lingling felt exhausted. She had faced her fear and conquered it. More importantly, she had done it with her Nong by her side.
"Phi, I want ice cream." Orm pouted which made her gaze immediately look away.
"Sure, let's buy it then we'll go home."
The car drove slowly down a quiet street. The only sounds were the engine and the leaves brushing against the windows. Lingling looked out at the road, but she felt uneasy. The fun of the day was over, and she felt a little worried.
"Orm," She began, her voice soft, breaking the comfortable silence. "I'm going to be out of the country for a week."
Orm, her head resting against the headrest, looked up waiting for her to continue.
"It's a conference meeting." Lingling continued, her gaze is still fixed on the road. "There's been some trouble with some investors, and I need to fix it. It's a lot."
"It's okay, take care and I hope you can fix everything there." . "And ahh, you're going alone?"
The CEO shakes her head. "I'll have to go with Win. He's my business partner after all."
Orm's heart sank a little but she expected it anyway. She tried to hide her anxiety by plastering a smile on her face. "Oh, right. Of course." A week. An entire week with Win. Almost all of her time, spent with him.
She knew she shouldn't feel this way. She has no right. She's just someone that Lingling fuck with and Win is her special someone and a valuable business partner. But a knot of insecurity tightened in her chest. The thought of them together in another country brother her. She knew The CEO was dedicated to her work, but it still made her uncomfortable. "Well, I'm sure you'll do great, Ling. You're amazing at what you do."
Lingling knew the woman was trying to be supportive, but she could sense the underlying tension but she nevermind it, thinking it won't be a big deal to her. When they got in front of the house, she felt bad. She knew she hadn't answered all of her questions and that the girl was probably worried. But all she could do is to give her a reassuring smile. "Get inside now and don't tire yourself from your finals. I know you'll ace it."
Orm returned the smile and nodded. "Be safe."
As she drove away, she felt like something was wrong. The silence between her and Orm wasn't just quiet, it felt like there were a lot of feelings they weren't talking about. She knew this trip wasn't just about work. It was going to be hard because she had to figure out her own feelings.
