Happy Reading

The sun had started its descent, casting everything in a soft orange glow. The girls were now bundled up in their jackets, huddled under blankets. Little fairy lights dangled off nearby tree branches  a last-minute idea from Isabella and Caroline adding a touch of magic to the already glowing evening.

Elena was sketching something in her notebook while Dharshi scrolled through photos on her phone, and Keerthi had her head resting on Caroline’s shoulder, sighing every five minutes dramatically.

Caroline (deadpan): “I swear, if you sigh one more time, I’m texting Angad to come pick you up.”

Keerthi (pouting): “Do it. Please. I will literally ride in the car trunk.”

Dharshi: “You’re obsessed. It’s getting tragic.”

Keerthi (grinning): “I’m in love. Let me be tragic.”

Elena: “Honestly, same. I started imagining Damon in a sherwani this morning. Help.”

Caroline: “Y’all are whipped.”

Elena (stretching her legs): “Okay but real talk  can we all just agree Caroline and Stefan are like… disgustingly perfect?”

Keerthi (teasing): “Ugh yes. Like ‘let’s go for a hike at 6 a.m. and talk about our future’ perfect.”

Dharshi: “Meanwhile I just argue with Abeer about whether putting pineapple on pizza is a red flag.”

Caroline (grinning, totally unbothered): “What can I say? We peaked early.”

Elena: “How long has it been now? Two years?”

Caroline: “Three. Well, two and a half if you don’t count the week I ghosted him after that whole museum-date-disaster.”

Keerthi: “Oh my god, you ghosted Stefan ?”

Caroline (smirking): “I was young. He said Van Gogh was overrated. I needed time.”

They all laughed again, warm and full. There was something healing about moments like these  soft, silly, and full of history.

Keerthi: “Angad sent me one of his toothbrush. That’s... less cute.”

Dharshi: “Abeer sent me a meme of a goat falling off a cliff with the caption ‘me missing you.’ Romantic, right?”

Caroline (teasing): “Your boys are chaos. Mine wakes up early, reads books, and makes French press coffee. Date a Salvatore, girls.”

Elena (deadpan): “Already did. Got the emotionally haunted version.”

They all burst out laughing again, and Keerthi nudged Caroline playfully.

Keerthi: “Fine, you win this round. But don’t forget you were the last to know about me and Angad.”

Caroline (raising a brow): “Babe, please. I’ve known since you were possessive when Maeve and Angad roaming on the campus .”
