Part 88

Hima rubbed her father’s back a little, trying not to laugh as Naruto continued sniffling dramatically against her shoulder.

Hima:
“Awwww Dad… don’t cry…”

Naruto pulled away with watery eyes, trying very hard (and failing) to look dignified.
Hinata wiped his cheeks gently.
Sarada covered her smile with her hand.

Finally, the warm hug loosened and Hima turned toward her brother.

Hima:
“Oni-chan…?”

Boruto had his arms crossed, lips pressed in a thin line, eyebrows twitching.

Classic overprotective big brother face.

He sighed — long and heavy.

Boruto:
“That idiot better not hurt you…”

Hima giggled softly.

Hima:
“You know him… he’ll never.”

Boruto’s expression softened immediately, tension melting out of his shoulders.
Finally, he stepped forward and pulled her into a warm, tight brotherly hug.

Hima hugged him back with a smile, resting her head against his shoulder.

Hima:
“Awwww don’t tell me you’re gonna cry too, Oni-chan…”

Boruto stiffened.

Sarada hid a laugh behind her palm.

Naruto started choking on air laughing.

Hinata covered her lips politely.

Boruto pulled back FAST.

Boruto:
“EXCUSE ME?! Cry?? ME?! Over YOU?!”
(voice cracks a little)

Hima raised an eyebrow knowingly.

Hima:
“Uh-huh… sure, Oni-chan…”

Boruto’s ears turned red.
He looked away, scratching his cheek.

Boruto:
“I–I mean… it’s just… you grew up so fast, okay?! And that Inojin— tch— if he breaks your heart I’ll—”

Sarada: (soft laugh) “—Boruto.”

He immediately wrapped an arm around Sarada’s waist, pouting.

Boruto:
“What?? I'm just making sure no one messes with my baby sister!”

Naruto pointed dramatically.

Naruto:
“I was about to say that!!”

Hinata sighed fondly, patting his arm.

Hima just giggled and leaned into her brother again.

Hima:
“Awwww… I love you too, Oni-chan.”

Boruto grumbled something under his breath, squeezing her one more time — the hug firmer and much more emotional than he’d ever admit.

Sarada smiled softly watching her husband being the sweetest brother.
