Shawn begged, protested the dangers, and pleaded
That I had to be safe and I was the only thing he needed
But that party was where I needed to be
And that he couldn't see.
"But why risk a night?" He asked,
But I just walked on past.
For if i knew what the night had planned,
I would've glanced back and grabbed safety's hand.
But I turned away
Because alcohol had a place for me to stay
At the party the room filled with drunk laughter,
Everyone happy as if they've found their happily ever after.
"One more shot," my mind would say,
And I would, knowing I'd feel the effects the next day.
Talking loudly and singing out
Made me forget about the pain running about
But that faitful moment of when the words were spoken,
"Let's take a drive," our minds were open.
We ran in the car
Not planning on going far.
Red lights meant go,
And why we thought that, I don't really know
The last sound I heard was a horn being blared
Through the cold night and the crisp air
"She could've gone far," my mother sobbed
And my dad got so sad, he quit his job,
And shawn would stare,
Out into the crisp and cold air
And say, "if only,"
"If only I was there."
