Y/n's POV:

(Senior year of highschool)

Walking through the hallways of my highschool, I feel stared down by someone, causing me to turn around abruptly, making the person behind me sigh in anger and briskly walk by me.

"Sorry," i mumble to her, but she keeps going as if she didn't hear me.

I look to both sides, still not being able to shake the feeling of being watched, until my best friend comes up behind me squealing, "y/N!!"

I jump, and cover my mouth with my hand to keep me from yelling, "what?" I giggle clutching my bag a little tighter, knowing what question she's going to ask.

"Are you going to ask him out today?" She wiggles her eyebrows excitedly, always having confidence that this time he'll say yes

"Do you actually think there's even a point in it anymore?" I sigh, walking up to my locker and hastily shoving my books in, completely doubting I'll work up the courage.

"There's always a point," she slumps against my locker, "ask him during detention you two are basically the only ones anyways." She smiles smugly to herself, almost as if she's proud of me.

"If this goes wrong," i look at her with playful anger, "you're buying the coffee this time."

"Agreed," she puts her hands up sarcastically and walks slowly away backwards, then turns around into a jog towards her other friends.

I look down at my palms realizing how sweaty they are with anxiety. Shawn always has this effect on me even at the thought of his perfect face, and vibrant personality.

I breathe out happily to myself and head off to 5th period, practically skipping out of excitement for detention. I pass shawn and we make awkward eye contact, with him flashing me one of his signature smiles.

For the first time in a long time, I have something to be excited for.

"Time to take attendance," the grumpy aid says, taking a sip of her coffee. This woman frowns so much she has creases in her face. Jesus.

"There's only 3 people here," shawn says with a disgusted laugh, clearly not wanting to be in this room, "i think you'd know if someone's missing."

I smile to myself, he's the first to point out this lady's utter waste of time.

"Keep up the attuitude Mr. Mendes and I'll be seeing you here next week too," she gives him a stern look and shawn and I, and this other girl I belive to be Laura, laughs.

He pulls out a pass briskly with a smug look, "I'm afraid I'm already here next week as well."

To avoid having a verbal fight with a senior, she just continues to take attendance and occasionally will type things wrong in the computer, making the process 10x longer than it needs to be.

Shawn and I are semi friends, when we have the opportunity to talk to eachother, we take it, but we don't really go out of each other's way just to say hi to the other.

Laura pulls out a pass from her agenda, popping a gum bubble loudly, "my teacher said I could spend detention in the library, but you have to come with me."

The teacher breathes out angrily, and gets up to see her pass, knitting her eyebrows together.

"I can't leave these two alone," she glances worridly at us, I have a book open in front of me and Shawn's head is already down, ready for a nap.

Laura rolls her eyes, "yeah I'm sure reading and napping Is going to make the cops come, but let me go."

I smile to myself knowing without the teacher here, it's the perfect opportunity to ask shawn out on yet another date.

After a couple minutes the two leave, and I immediately get up from my seat, standing above shawn.

"Hey shawn?" I whisper quietly, hoping he isn't sleeping.

"Hmm?" He picks his head up and blinks tiredly.

My knees begin to shake and I start sweating, "would you like to go out to a movie sometime?" My eyes read hopeful but his expression doesn't change.

"Y/n," he sighs impatiently, "how many times do I have to tell you? I'm not interested okay? You're just not my type."

I look down at the floor nodding, and awkwardly walk away from being rejected yet again.

***flash forward to the two of them being 22***

The club music booms through the place, drunken bodies dancing to the beat, and passionate make out sessions surround me.

I fix my skin tight dress looking for my friends, for I was told to meet them here for one of my friends birthday celebrations.

Lizzy, my roomate, waves me over but as I make my way through the thick crowd, I bump into someone I never thought I'd see again.

Shawn.

His drink spills a little on him and he curses quietly to himself, looking down to me, his once pissed off expression turns to surprise.

"Y/n oh my gosh!" He beams, still wiping the alcohol off of him, "you've changed, uhm a lot." He eyes me up and down.

I have to admit, so has he. His features are more profound and he has definetly been working out.

"So have you," I say putting on a smile, softly apologizing for the mess I made.

"Remember all those times in high school you'd ask me out?" He laughs to himself at the memory, while I just stand there embarrassed.

"Yes," i whisper, anger boiling inside me. If only he knew how much that actually hurt.

"You look a lot better since then, do you want to head to my place in a little bit?" He smirks at the purposal he just made and I just scoff.

"How nice of you," i say sarcastically, "but no thanks, I'd rather not sleep with a jackass and I'm realizing that now, I should've a long time ago."

And with that I make my way over to my friends, hoping he realizes what he let slip away was golden.
