Demi continued to settle in for the next couple of days, she didn't plan to start her own business quite yet. She wanted to settle in back home and look for her own place first, she had savings which she could use for that and get a big enough house to run her own business in. Money would be tight at first but she hoped it would pay off. She was looking forward to spending the day with Joe today but she hoped that everything went okay at the hospital for them. She couldn't imagine how hard it must be for a couple knowing that they couldn't have a baby. She knew it hadn't gone well when she saw Joe's red eyes when they met at the mall, she could tell he had been crying. He had always been a sensitive person and that was one of the things she loved about him in the past, he wasn't afraid to show his emotions even if it seemed lame to others.
"Did it not go well then?" Demi questioned as they pulled away from the hug.
"No." He mumbled Demi sighing.
"Is it you or her?" She questioned as she sat them down having already brought him a coffee knowing what he liked and how.
"Emily and she's not taking it very well, there isn't a way she'll be able to carry a baby." Joe replied, he knew she would be there for him even if they hadn't been around each other for the past five years. To Joe it seemed like they had never been apart but he knew that was the strong connection they had in the past since the age of five.
"What are your options then?"
"We've talked briefly about adoption but also surrogacy, the problem with that would be is Emily's eggs aren't working properly so it would have to be the traditional way." Joe explained sighing at the end taking a sip of his coffee.
"I'll do it." Demi muttered quickly covering her mouth with her hand as Joe looked towards her after his coffee was back down on the table.
"I can't ask you to do that Demi, do you know how hard it will be to give away your own child? At least if another woman does it she knows what she's signed up for." Joe urged Demi sighing nodding her head gently.
"I know, it just slipped out," Demi answered leaning her head on his shoulder smiling as he kissed her head gently. "You'll have a baby one day Joe."
"If only we hadn't have lost the baby when we were teenagers. They were amazed at the hospital she could even get pregnant." Joe sighed.
Joe and Demi continued to spend the morning together but Joe soon thought it was best to get back to Emily and see how his soon to be wife is doing. He couldn't imagine how she was feeling knowing she'd never be able to have a child of her own, at least he still good in a way for them but she couldn't. He couldn't get what Demi had offered out of his mind though, he knew it came out suddenly but if it was something she wanted to do it was still an option.
"Hey how are you holding up?" Joe questioned slumping down on the couch next to her wrapping his arm around her as she sniffled.
"I'm okay." She answered.
"I know it's not exactly what we wanted but there is still ways we can have a baby and we will one day." He assured her.
"It's just hard to realise I'll never have a child that came from us, it will either be you and another woman or neither of us at all." Emily replied crying gently into his shoulder. Joe kissed her hair gently hugging her tighter.
"I know but I'm here for you, I'll always be there for you." Emily closed her eyes letting him hold her. She didn't know what to think of what they had found out today.
