Joe spend the next couple of hours getting ready with all the men knowing that Emily would be at home while all the girls got ready with her. He was extremely nervous for today and his nightmare only made him feel worse, he didn't want it to come true but he knew his feelings for Demi were only getting stronger, he loved Emily still though and had to push the feelings for Demi away. He was getting married to Emily today.
"Are you nervous?" He heard a voice looking to his side seeing Nick, Joe slowly nodded his head smoothing out his tux. "You look fine and you'll do fine."
"I-I had a nightmare last night that I said Demi's name instead of Emily's and I'm afraid it's gonna happen." Joe admitted in a hushed tone, he didn't want anybody else to hear him. He didn't want anyone to know he was starting to like Demi.
"Your thinking about it too much Joe, the more you think about it the more likely your actually gonna do it when you get up there." Nick stated.
"I guess you're right, thanks Nick." He had never been so nervous in his life, not even his exams at school or his first day at work. He was happy with Emily before he found out Demi liked him but now he was having second thoughts but he kept telling himself that he should go through with the wedding, it was in his heart that he should.
It was about an hour later and everyone was waiting for someone to give them the all clear that they could go and get into position. Guests that weren't part of the wedding had already arrived taking a seat in the main Church where the main ceremony would take place. It was Christmas eve so they were wondering how many people would turn up but they had given them plenty of notice. Joe looked up when the door opened seeing his father.
"Emily just left the house, it's time to get into position." Joe nodded his head standing up sharing a couple of hugs around. He couldn't help but smile when he entered the church hearing cheering and clapping. He greeted a couple of close friends and family as he made his way up. He could feel himself calming down as he stepped up onto the platform where the priest would be with him and Emily to wed them. He kept chanting Emily over and over again in his head to make sure he did say the right name and not Demi's.
Joe didn't look up from the floor as he sat down on the step, the automatic lights have switched off but he was fed up of moving every two minutes when they did. He had lost count of how many times he had. He lost count at 100. He was alone in the church everyone had already left as Emily was nearly two hours late to her own wedding but Joe stayed adamant that she was on her way. That she would make it soon but minutes went past turning into hours and Joe was still sat on the step staring at the ground as he cried gently. He didn't understand. He heard heels clicking on the floor his head shooting up thinking it could be Emily sighing when he saw his mother making her way up the aisle Demi not far behind her. His head fell back to the floor as his mother approached him.
"She's on her way mom, she'll make it." Joe muttered as she sat down next to him but Demi keeping her distance taking a seat laying her hand on her bump as she cried gently.
"Joe Emily won't be making it." Denise spoke softly.
"Of course she will, it's our wedding day," Joe answered still not looking up. "Dad told me she left the house so clearly she's on her way." Denise's heart broke some more for her son as she rubbed his back gently holding her own tears back.
"J-Joe Emily's car crashed on the way, she died at the scene." Denise revealed holding her son as he broke down crying in her arms.
Demi watched from a distance as her best friend cried at the loss of the woman he had been with for the last six years but she couldn't stay back and watch any longer. She got up sitting down next to him holding him too as he became hysterical in his mother's arms.
