I was dumbfounded. I didn't know
where to look. I looked at my mother. She was smiling with anticipation. Anthony and Lee were smiling too. My dad was smiling. Finally I looked at Roger. He was on one knee now holding the box out to me to show me the white gold ring with a beautiful diamond on the top. I looked him straight in the eyes. He stared back at me, his blue eyes burning straight into my blue, but not as blue eyes. He had a small smile on his face. As I moved closer to him his smile became bigger and he showed his teeth. I took the ring out of the box and I heard my family breathe out a sigh of relief. I put it on my ring finger. Roger stood up and pulled me into a kiss which ended in a hug. My mother got up and kissed me and then Roger.Roger and I decided to get married in June of that year as we were both so excited. I couldn't wait to get married to him. I didn't care about anything he did. Him proposing was all I needed to help me forgive him. The fact he rushed to come to Ireland warmed my heart and I was so excited. I realised how much I truly loved him. "Well, thank you David, for letting me marry your beautiful daughter." Roger said. My mother pulled me out into the living room while my brothers, dad and Roger all talked. "See, baby, didn't I tell you he was a good one?" She asked. I gave her a hug. "Thank you mum for being so supportive." I said, crying. "Oh honey, that's what I'm here for." She said crying too. After we collected our emotions we went back into the kitchen. "I was thinking we could go for a walk or something seeing as I'll have to leave soon." Said Roger. "Okay!" I said, putting my coat on. "Oh, by the way," I said. "Don't worry, you won't be leaving." Roger looked confused. "I'll be coming with you!" I said, laughing. Roger smiled. "I was hoping you would." He said. We headed off for a walk.
"Did I ever tell you how much I love your smile?" I asked Roger. "Nope!" He said laughing. "Well, I love it." I said. Roger grabbed my hand as we walked. "I know we put this all behind us," he said. "But I just want to let you know that I'm so sorry for cheating on you. We hadn't slept together in a while and I was missing it and I just went to a club. She was a hooker, and I have no more contact with her. I don't even know why you forgave me, I don't deserve it, I'm so sorry, Megan." He said. "It's okay, besides it was kind of my fault for not being able to give you those needs." I said. "No!" Roger said. "No no no! Please please don't blame yourself for this, it was my mistake and I'm willing to accept the consequences!" He said, tears rolling down his cheeks. "Rog," I mumbled, stopping to wipe his tears away. "Don't cry." "I'm sorry I just feel so guilty for letting you down." He said, hanging his head in shame. I kissed him on the lips. "We're getting married soon, and I'm willing to put that behind me under one condition: that you will too." I said. Roger nodded. I smiled and we started walking again. The whole way back to my house Roger made me laugh and made me realise how much I missed and loved him. He was the sun in my darkest days. He could brighten my mood, just by smiling. That's how you know you're in love with someone. When them doing a tiny everyday thing, makes your day.
