I immediately regretted my decisions from the previous night.
I hadn't been drunk or anything like that so I had absolutely no excuse for what I did. I felt awful. Megan would be so disappointed in me.
Speaking of her, I was yearning for her to wake up. I didn't know how much longer I was able to cope with this.
And I didn't know how long the kids were going to be able to survive without their mummy.
Speaking of kids, I was extremely broody. I was dying for another baby. Myself and Megan had agreed not to have another one for ourselves until after we had one for Freddie.
He still hadn't asked us for one and I was really hoping he would soon so we could have one for us.
However, before we had any kids, Megan had to wake up first.
Of course, I wanted to go to hospital to see her, but I was too ashamed to see Rose again. I didn't want to lead her on. She knew I was married and had settled down, so I was surprised she kissed me, but I was even more surprised that I had kissed her.
I had been awake very early that morning so I decided to just go into the hospital and leave the kids at home to bring them in later.
The sun was only rising while I was driving. I pulled into the car park and locked my car before heading in. I liked going into the hospital early in the morning because there wasn't many people around. I was in there so often that the other patients and their families knew who I was and always asked questions about Megan.
But in the morning they weren't around and there was no one to pry. I could sit in silence and watch Megan sleep peacefully in her room, no distractions.
Only, this morning, I was shocked to see Megan was no longer in her bed.
I ran to the front desk and asked the receptionist where she was.
"Let me see.... Megan has been transferred to intensive care." She told me.
"Why?"
"I'm afraid I don't know. You'll have to go up. Dr Johnson will most likely be there."
I followed the signs on the walls to intensive care and saw Rose standing outside, her arms folded, a worried expression on her face.
"Rose?" I called out, running down the hall to her. She turned around when she heard me.
"Roger! There you are."
"What's going on? What happened?"
"Megan had some complications during the night." She said.
"Like what, what happened?"
"Her lung may have collapsed."
I frowned, unable to say anything.
"Right now, she's having a chest drain, where they release all the water from her lungs. It's a fairly simple procedure and it won't take long."
I breathed a sigh of relief. At least it wasn't anything too serious.
"You should head back down to her room. She'll be brought back when the chest drain is finished."
I followed her advice and made my way back to Megan's room.
I waited and waited for someone to come down and tell me it was finished, but no one did.
It had been a few hours until I saw Rose coming into Megan's room.
I immediately stood up.
"Is it done?" I asked.
Rose looked a bit shocked and worried.
