You Found A Way Through

I felt my heart nearly jump out of my chest. "Oh my God!" I said, excitedly, giving Megan a hug, which was difficult as I didn't want to hurt her. "You remember me!"

"Why wouldn't I?" She asked.

"You've had this surgery because you fell when we were on holiday. The fall caused you to lose your memory."

"Really?" "Yep."

"What didn't I remember?"

"Nearly everything, not me or the kids. It was horrible. But you're back to normal now! You're okay!" I said, kissing her forehead.

She winced. "My neck is killing me."

"Yeah you had spinal surgery. The spine was slightly tilted and it stopped you from remembering or something like that."

I noticed the kids started to stir. "Look at them..." she cooed. "I know." I mumbled. "They took it so hard when you couldn't remember them."

She started to cry. I got on my knees beside her bed. "Hey hey," I said. "Don't cry. You're okay now. That's all that matters."

She nodded and I lay on the bed beside her. "I missed sleeping with you." I said.

"Did we not sleep together?"

"Well we did, but it wasn't the same. It was like sleeping with a stranger. You always forgot to kiss me goodnight and you didn't sleep on your side, you were on your back."

She frowned. "I hate sleeping on my back."

"I know," I said, laughing.

"Did we.... uh... do it..?" I burst out laughing. "No we didn't, actually. But we did kiss, so that was alright..."

"Wow," she said. "I can't imagine a life without you.... well I guess I don't exactly want to either but...... when I think of my life, you're in it. I can't see myself alone.... you're always with me."

I never ever thought someone could love me so much. I was tough to put up with. Meaning so much to her, it meant so much to me. I could never explain how much I loved her too. I couldn't put it into words. She didn't need words for her to know how much I truly cared for her.

Her little speech flattered me beyond words so I looked down at her and placed a soft and tender kiss on her lips. She wanted more, though and she kissed me back, using more force and holding onto my neck. I loved when she was the dominant one.

I pulled away and she smiled at me as I ran my fingers through her hair. Just then, the doctor came in and I got off the bed so he could take a look at her. "Okay," he said. "You seem to be recovering fine from the surgery, but just to be safe I am going to keep you in overnight. Nothing to worry about, just for observation..." He left the room and I lay on the bed beside Megan again.

"Another night without you huh?" I mumbled into her ear.

"Yeah. I'm sorry Roger."

"Hun, you've got nothing to be sorry for alright? This isn't your fault."

She snuggled into my chest. "I love you Roger. I always have and always will."

"I love you too babe, I love you too."

It had started to get late so I decided to bring the kids home. However, Megan had fallen asleep in my arms. I didn't want to move her just in case she woke up, so I started to move slightly so that I was lying on the bed beside her. She stitrred but didn't wake. I kissed her forehead and lay beside her, the both of us dreaming sweet dreams of each other.

*The Next Morning*

I woke up, to my surprise, in the chair beside Megan's bed.

I stretched and yawned and saw the kids were still at the end of her bed. How did I get here?

Megan was sleeping peacefully on her side, like she always did. I took those few moments to have a proper look at her. Her eyes were, obviously, closed and her mouth was between open and closed. She had both her hands tucked under her head. I sat, looking at her, when all of a sudden, her eyes shot open.

"Roger!" she exclaimed.

"What, what's wrong?" I asked.

"You frightened me..." she said, laughing. "Oh," I said, getting up from the chair and sitting on the bed beside her while she sat up.

"Why weren't you in bed beside me?" She asked.

"I don't know. I woke up in that chair.... rather strange isn't it?"

"Very..." she mumbled and we both laughed.

I noticed that the kids were awake. "Hey guys..." Megan said to them. "Mummy?" Asked Elly.

Megan nodded and put her arms out to which both Elly and Aidan ran to. She grabbed them in a huge hug and kissed both of them, tears streaming down her face. I watched in awe as my beautiful children and wife embraced.

Just then, the doctor came in. "Ah, glad to see we're all happy here," he smiled. "Very happy." I said. He took Megan's blood pressure and other tests to be sure she could leave.

"Now, because of the surgery," he said. "I'm a little concerned what it'll do to your balance. So, I'm going to assign you crutches so you'll prevent another accident, okay?"

Megan nodded and the doctor left the room to get the crutches. "How have we both been on crutches in less than two years?" I asked, laughing. "Cause we're so unlucky," Megan replied.

We left the hospital that day with Megan on crutches, Elly and Aidan staying close to her, watching her carefully as if she were their child, and Luke in my arms. I stopped for a minute and watched as Megan and the kids laughed and messed.

"Luke," I said. "That's our crazy family. But we love them, yeah? Your mum is the best mum you'll ever ask for and you've got a great older brother and sister. Never ever take them for granted like I did. Cause you'll regret it."

I looked at Luke. He squirmed slightly in my arms. "Exactly." I said and kissed his tiny forehead following my hobbling wife and beautiful children as they walked in the orange glow of the sunrise.
