Baby, You're A Liar

It had been a few weeks since our wedding and Christmas time. Things had been going perfect. Too perfect.

In our lives, it was only a matter of time until things started to go south. This was always in the back of my mind, but until it actually happened I enjoyed every second of my happy life.

It sounds crazy but it was now 1982, and Queen had already went back to the studio to record their next album, Hot Space. Continuing their tradition of working with Mack, they went to Germany to record and Roger was gone most days but home on the weekends.

I was a bit surprised to hear their new sound, almost disco or funk. It was different and at first Roger found it hard to write like that, but eventually he got the knack for it.

One thing he kept venting to me about was Brian, how he had changed towards him. Brian was now overly nice but still had his caring side which Roger said he didn't see. I had to keep it a secret that Brian called me almost every day to talk, mainly about Chrissie.

If Roger found out, he would be livid, and we both knew that, but Brian was finding it hard to open up to any of the guys, especially Roger, so he kept turning to me. I felt bad helping him but I couldn't just ignore him.

One Saturday, Roger came home just as I was hanging up on Brian.

"Hey, love, who was that?" He asked, setting his bag down.

"Oh, just Sharon." I lied.

"How are the kids?" He asked, pulling me close and kissing my forehead.

"Great. Aidan is gone to his friend's house, Elly is with Sharon and Luke is at his preschool. They do weekends now too." I told him, snuggling into his chest.

"So we've got the house to ourselves?" He smirked.

"Mmm. Yes we do." I replied, a smile forming on my face too.

"Well, let me just bring my stuff upstairs and then we'll take advantage of that." He told me and carried his bag upstairs, as I followed him closely.

He threw his bag on the floor.

"Done." He giggled and sat on the bed, taking my hand and bringing me over to him.

He lay down and pulled me on top of him, kissing my lips.

I unbuttoned his shirt and he started speaking.

"So, how's Sharon anyways?" He asked.

I took his shirt off his arms.

"Huh?" I asked.

"You were just on the phone to her?"

"Oh yeah. She's fine." I said, taking my top off, but Roger wasn't finished yet.

"So, what was she calling for?" He asked as I lay on the bed and pulled him on top of me.

"Just, to talk." I told him, kissing him, until he pulled away and I groaned.

"But, did you not just see her, because she has Elly?"

"Yeah! I did, okay? Does she need permission to call?" I asked, and Roger frowned slightly at me.

"I'm sorry, I just..." I said, putting my hands in his hair. "I just don't want to talk about Sharon right now, you know?"

"Of course. Sorry." Roger said, kissing my neck and nibbling on it.

I rolled my eyes, as that part of my neck was so sensitive and Roger was biting it, driving me crazy.

"Heard from Brian?" He asked.

"Yeah..." I mumbled, as Roger's blonde hair tickled my chin. "I was just speaking to him..."

Roger stopped kissing my neck and I was snapped out of my haze.

"When?" He asked.

"Just there, a minute ago." I mumbled, putting my head down.

Roger stood up and put his shirt back on and ran down the stairs.

"Roger! Wait! I'm sorry. It's just he needed someone to talk to. I'm his friend."

"Well, I'm not." He said, dialling a number on the telephone.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Listen, leave Megan alone and stop bothering her with your pesky calls. Call here one more time and I swear to God, Brian."

He hung up and went into the kitchen.

"That's why I didn't tell you. Because I knew you'd do something like that." I said.

"Yeah, well, he needs to learn that you don't share wives." He snapped.

"Give it a rest, Roger. He just wants to talk to someone. You aren't exactly ready to listen."

"That's because he's a liar. I guess you're well matched for him then."

"Roger, I'm sorry, I was protecting you."

"No, you were protecting yourself. And him." He scowled.

"I'm sorry."

"It's fine. I guess it's taken me this long to realise that you're a liar."

I frowned and left the kitchen, more than annoyed.

I completely refused to speak to him from then on. He couldn't just expect me to stop talking to Brian, my friend. Roger was always jealous, but this was another level.

I didn't want to get Roger more angry so for the next few weeks I didn't talk to Brian on the phone at all. I was thinking of sending him a letter, but knowing my luck, Roger would find Brian's reply faster than I would.

One night I got into bed beside Roger, who I assumed was asleep until he rolled over onto me.

He started kissing me, all over my neck and down my chest.

"Let's make another baby." He whispered in my ear.

"Why would you want to make a baby with a liar?" I asked, still annoyed. "And besides, Freddie hasn't asked for one yet."

"Not for him, for us."

"Like I said, why make one with a liar?"

"Megan, I'm sorry." He mumbled.

"No. You always do this. You always apologise when you want something. I'm not dealing with it anymore." I told him.

He put his hands around my chin and pressed his lips hard against mine.

"Does that change your mind?" He asked, breathlessly.

I was dying to scream "Yes!" But instead I shook my head and Roger turned around again.

I pulled him back and got on top of him.

"I will, if you promise me this:" I said.

"Anything." He replied, staring into my eyes, hungry.

"This time, you won't leave."

Roger pulled me down onto him and then rolled over so he was leaning over me.

"Why the sudden desire for a baby?" I asked, between kisses.

"Because I love always having a baby." He told me and pulled the covers over us.

The next morning I woke up and got out of bed, looking sadly at the phone. I really missed talking to Brian. It had been almost six weeks and we hadn't spoken.

I noticed something in the letterbox.

Some usual bills, and appointment for Elly... and a note with just "Megan" on the front.

I opened it and glanced behind me, to make sure Roger wasn't around.

I pulled it out and gasped.

"You thought you could get rid of me. It won't be that easy. See you soon.
